Car Comparison / Re: need help again guys...
« on: June 16, 2013, 07:55:08 pm »
If no issue sa size, I think Jazz will take the cake. Followed by the Altis then Vios. Then Fiesta ako.

Personal pick ko would be the Altis though para at least I have that size categor of the vehicle din, if I had the same dilemma. =)

Pag sa Fiesta, maganda sana, just don't like the dual clutch shudders lalo pag in traffic.  Pero kung manual naman I don't see a problem.

Car Comparison / Re: Ford escape vs Toyota innova

If you are worried about flood, I think both these vehicles are only safe to run when there is about 1ft (300mm) high flood waters. I don't think they are rated on the side of SUVs like Montero, Alterra, Fortuner at 500mm or the Trailblazer at 800mm.

But what are you looking at? Diesel or Gas? I think that will help those who will comment in giving you inputs at least.

Cheers!

Car Comparison / Re: buying my 1st car

Actually I recall it is only Euro 3, but still better than the Big 3 =)

About sa response lag sa turbo, mas noticeable siya if marumi na yung fuel filter mo or dumidumi na. Pero 3 seconds is too long so baka sa maling gear ka pumilit humataw. Tama na dapat downshift mo to get better acceleration.

If you don't understand, try playing CSR Racing on your smartphone or some other drag racing game. You get a better idea of how gear position and basically acceleration are affected, to a certain degree. I'm not recommending real world drag racing, I'm just giving you an idea on how to get a better idea. =)

Motormouth / Re: HOW DO I "BREAK-IN" ACCENT HATCH A/T
« on: June 04, 2013, 08:44:12 pm »
Well, I guess you can check with others on this but for us, we've never done HARD BREAK IN.

I've never done a break in past 3000rpm level. And I do 3000rpm busts only, not prolonged 3000rpm runs.

Again I am not an expert on this, but the parts in your engine are basically new and need a bit of time to get used to "regular driving". As such, you don't shock them when you break them in if you get my drift. So that's my principle on the matter.

Oh and when you do break in your Accent, be sure to cool it down as well for a minute or two before you switch off just to be on the safe side especially if its the Diesel Turbo.

On another note, I thought the claim of the new vehicles launched are that they have been broken in by the manufacturer prior to sale? I  mean, this is what some have been mentioning time and time again as raised when there was that Kia Picanto Fuel Efficiency Debacle.

Motormouth / Re: Best brand of Gasoline

So, I guess it's worth trying. haven't tried the others though.

Not sure kung yun tlga ung cause or may iba pa.

Medyo wala naman benefit to choose one over the other since pareho naman sila may ethanol/alcohol. Tsaka sa alam ko karamihan naman ng kotse (yung standard at least) 89-91 RON kelangan or talon agad to 95 RON.

Iniisip ko nga what if yung 91 RON fuel tapos 95 RON then 100 RON na lang benta nila on gasoline. Hindi ba mas streamline yung inventory since hindi mo kelangan mag store ng iba ibang fuel so minimize hirap sa production?

Meron ba standard car na automatically minimum requirement is 93 RON? Curious lang ako.

Pero still, can't wait for standardization of Euro 4 here in the Phils. I think it can't come soon enough. Much needed.

Tanong ko pala sa iba, may effect ba, lalo na sa diesel if yours is a Euro 2 engine, then you use Euro 4 diesel? Kelangan ba magpaoverhaul ng engine to use the fuel? Like yung mga dati leaded fuel only yung cars dahil kung nag unleaded magagasgas yung pistons nila dahil nawala yung lead that served as lubricant?

Car Comparison / Re: Honda CR-V or Mitsubishi Montero Sport?
« on: April 27, 2013, 05:45:08 pm »
In terms of servicing or maintenance, Honda CRV will cost less on a per service basis alone. Honda will allow you a servicing interval every 10k kms. However, for the Montero, you need to have it serviced every 5k interval. 5k being light (topup of engine oil), then all the 10k intervals will be the heavy/change oil service.

Tires would be cheaper for the Honda as it is a smaller size. The Montero bridgestone is approx 10k a piece, For The CRV, I think they cost around 5k a piece. But the Montero tires should last around 40k to 50k while the CRV would last around 30k (more or less)

You will save on the Montero with your fuel costs. In terms of mileage, you would get similar figures for both. So its only the peso value on the per liter basis.

Comfort wise, of course, the CRV will be a more comfortable as it's not a ladder frame SUV.

Both will last you like a Toyota would so I don't think it would be a concern.

Those are my thoughts on it and good luck on your purchase. =)

Ei guys, don't know if anyone is aware or saw it as well, but just today, I saw that a few Petron station have "updated" the Petron Xtra Unleaded to Petron Super Xtra Gasoline. And the most significant change I see is that it is cheaper by 1 peso per liter. didn't see the the RON though.

I never heard any news about it before this so I was wondering if any of your guys know what is up with Petron?

Car Comparison / Re: Which SUV?
« on: March 10, 2013, 12:14:03 am »
If your dad is worried about parking, tell him the following figures.

No building/parking slot will be approved if it is less the 2.5m x 5.0m for perpendicular parking and 2.15m x 6.0m for parallet parking.

The TB is about 1.9m in width sidemirror to sidemirror.

Turning radius 6.35m according to the brochure. Almost the same with a Grand Starex and Fortuner but better than a Kia Carnival LWB model. So I think it is still maneuverable.

A driveway width for parking is approximately 5.0m clear. So the TB is suited for those parking structures. The narrowest driveway of a parking structure I have ever driven is the multilevel parking beside virramall at Greenhills. I would say the TB is still not to difficult to maneuver.

Asian Originals / Re: Toyota HiAce Larger Variants

If ever Toyota nga yun, baka imported and diplomatic most likely for service siguru ng staff ng embassy.

I think only Isuzu Crosswind, Mitsu Adventure and Toyota Innova would fall in that category, and a few pickups like the Hilux.

If you are going to use this in far off places where you may end up needing to top off in unfamiliar stations/fuel stops, I would recommend the TB over the Monty.

But Monty is still a good pick, although the 4x4 version of the Monty feels really lacking for me compared to everyone else. I'd personally wait for the Everest as long as I can so that it is an all out war of the titans of entry level ladder frame SUVs =)

Are pickups on or off the table? Really CUVs and SUVs only?

Because if you are saying rolling and muddy, then a pickup or SUVs might be better for flexibility of use in a given situation. I would be concerned with the road tires equipped with CUVs as they might not give you the traction you need.

Just my two cents.

Car Comparison / Re: Need help in choosing my first car!
« on: February 07, 2013, 06:34:14 pm »
Hello!

I would recommend looking for a 1.5 Vios 2002-2006 or 1.6 Altis 2000-2004

I would avoid the CVT Honda City because if may problema transmission niyan (Because of +/- features, mahal siya pagawa.

At least with Toyota you would be able to have that peace of mind and reliability you are looking for along with the FC.

@brentot

That's actually a misconception. An improperly maintained fortuner will also belch smoke if you don't take care of it right. I'm not saying it has to be all done in the casa but just saying maintenance needs to be done properly.

Also, I was behind a Chevy TB the other day on the Skyway and as well left the toll booth, the TB belched a bit of smoke. Granted it was not a continuous cloud but it still let out dark grey smoke. Well, that aside, it is relatively new still to our market so maybe it was just because of his source of diesel was dirty or it does belch from time to time.

Just an input I wanted to make to this discussion. In terms of noise, I think they all emit the same noise with the exception of the Koreans who have mastered the silent diesels when inside for some reason. It is significantly less obtrusive when you are inside the cabin compared to the Japs.
