Trekker vs. Dmax: need your opinions

Gentlemen,

I will be purchasing a pick-up in a week or so and I have narrowed down my choices to the 2007 Ford Ranger Trekker 4x2MT and Isuzu Dmax 4x2MT.  I would apprciate your opinions on which is a better buy between the two. Criterias I am looking at when buying a car are the following:

1. Engine Power and Reliability
2. Suspension Reliability
3. Ride Quality
4. Exterior and Interior Styling
5. Spare parts availability
6. Resale Value (5-6 years)

I just ordered a D-Max and the dealer is in the process of preparing it and installing the accessories that I wanted added.

Just like you, my choices were narrowed down to the Ford Ranger Trekker 4x2MT and Isuzu Dmax 4x2MT.  You can't go wrong with whatever you decide to buy if it's just between these two with full consideration to the criteria that you have on your list.

The only reason why I chose the D-Max is that, 1. It has an Isuzu Diesel engine, one of the world's best if not the best in diesel engine technology; 2. It's cheaper than the Ford Ranger Trekker; 3. It has a front face that still looks better than the Ford Ranger Trekker; and, 4. It has a better advantage in economics over the Ford Ranger Trekker in the long run... that is, costs for parts, maintenance, etc...

We may give a lot of opinions but it really is up to you to decide.

For me, its the D-Max. Good, reliable, fuel-efficient diesel engine with a wide torque band. The Ranger too is good but Ford isnt really known for its Diesel engines, Ford is known for producing gas-guzzling vehicles. Although the 380Nm of torque produced by the Ranger is something to think about.

The D-Max has a somewhat more relaxed style compared to the brute, alpha-male structure of the Ranger. Depends really on what type of person you are. The Ford is tough-looking while the Isuzu is a little bit sedate.

Price notwithstanding, D-Max is the best buy.
How should I know about this?
Well, we have a D-Max ourselves..

hey triggerman, thanks for the advice.  Although I doubt that the Dmax is cheaper than the trekker, I didn't specify earlier but the dmax model I'm thinking of getting is the 4x2LS

The Trekker may be cheaper in price... because it only has 2.5L engine compared to the DMax LS whcih has 3.0L engine.  The 4x2 2.5L Trekker MT is priced at PhP 971,000.00 which is more expensive than the 3.0L DMax LX MT which is priced at PhP 925,000.00.  If you look at the same engine size and drive configuration, the 4x4 DMax LS A/T has a price tag of P 1,325,000.00, while the Ford 4x4 3.0L AT has a price tag of PhP 1,401,000.00.

The 3.0L DMax 4x2 LS MT is exactly what I bought which has a price tag of PhP 1,015,000.00.  For me that's a better deal for a good pick-up and cheaper than the Ford.  For a difference of Php 44,000.00, you get a bigger yet more fuel efficient diesel engine.

The D-Max is the better choice....It's more reliable and it's an Isuzu..And Isuzus are known to be reliable and tough...The Ford is nice but service costs may be expensive...Hope i was help to you..

Trekker for me is better. It has good engine, the reliability is proven. I've seen a pimped trekker nearby our place and it looks pretty rugged on bodykits and 20 inch rim.

thanks guys. I ended up getting the trekker, I was able to get a good discount from the dealer. I chose the white color.  Now i'm debating on what would look better, low profile tires with 20" rims or balloon type tyre with 16" rims...

Go for the 20" rims with low-profile tires. Better-looking.
