2001 Pajero FM or 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
« on: May 05, 2013, 12:16:18 am »
hi i'm just a guest here, need some good advice whether I'll give up my 2001 Pajero Field Master with 104,000 mileage in exchange for a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 48,000 mileage.  Sorry we're not talking of brand new car here, can't afford at the moment.

Straight trade, no cash, no hidden defects? Good deal for you.

Otherwise, depends on how much cash out you'll have to give.

@niky tnx so much for the reply. We just need to add 100k.  Considering the value of Santa Fe now is (2nd hand) almost 800k pa, and pajero 2001 around 580-600K.  So do you think it's really ok? Btw female here so really havin a hard time to decide.

No hidden defects pala. Guaranteed, I know the seller.

Sounds like a decent deal, considering the age of your FM. At 48k, the Santa Fe still has life left in it. Typically fuel system problems don't appear until after 100k, and possibly not until after 150k.

If you're buying this as a "meantime" car, while waiting to trade up to brand new, go ahead. But if you're angling towards saving up for something new, you could keep your Pajero for a while longer and do just that.

Have you started replacing items on the Pajero yet? AC Compressor? Alternator? If you haven't, just yet, that might be a good reason to trade to something newer. Less hassle.

Its a good deal, I hope the car isn't flooded since crdi engines are sensitive to water and the car might be problematic in the long run. If not, then its a good deal. Not to mention the Santa fe is easier to drive than the Pajero. Just a tip, hyundais are equipped with cabin filter that needs cleaning at least every 3 mos to keep the aircon in a top shape or more frequent if you leave in dusty area. The cabin filter is located just behind the console/compartment

@niky, if I opt to chose SantaFe, maybe I'll be using it for 5 to 6 more years, (same if I keep the Pajero), until that time I can't have a bnew  :-[  My budget could get me a decent bnew car, but I'm really into SUV's e so I'm settling for a 2nd hand. My FM has still a stock ac compressor, alternator.  So you really think it's a good decision to let go of my FM (2001) and get the Santa Fe (2008)? I really appreciate so much the help here.

You'll have to check how many kilometers you do in a year, then figure out what your possible damage, in terms of maintenance expenses, will be.

Personally, if I were single and looking at keeping the vehicle for 5-6 years, I'd get a small, economical car, but that's just me. :p
