Suzuki APV or Toyota Avanza?
« on: June 08, 2012, 02:29:32 am »
Hi all!

Help please. We've been looking for a decent car that will fit my family of 6 with 1 infant, plus a yaya. This will be our first car purchase. We're from Las Pinas and will be using it primarily for trips to Manila for work and school via Coastal. Would like to know which will be best for us. We're a big family, I'm 5'11, and comfort is important along with fuel efficiency. I heard APV's FC is around 7-8km/L while Avanza's 9-10km/L. Another thing, Suzuki has promos of very low DP for the APV (around 40k for the SGX MT) while Avanza's DP is around 160k for the 1.5G model. We're tight on budget and the only thing that's hindering us from getting a car asap is the downpayment, so the APV's deal a real plus for us.

Hope you guys can help. Thanks thanks a lot in advance!

Hi, just to give my two cents regarding this query :)

Since you mentioned that you are on a little tight budget, have you also considered that opting for a low DP means you will be paying more for the monthly amortization? I guess that wont be an issue if you are willing to pay for greater interest rates just for the sake of having the car ASAP.

Here are the scenarios that most likely will be applied based on your choice:

- Choosing the APV option will cost you more in the long run because of the higher monthly amortization and the slightly higher fuel consumption than the Avanza option. But the positive side is that you get to have the car ASAP.

- Choosing to save for the 160k (30%) DP of the Avanza will cost you lesser monthly amortization and a little bit lesser fuel consumption, but you will have to wait until you are ready to pay for the DP.

This is to consider that the fuel consumption figures that you have mentioned are correct. :)

I'm currently a student and due to graduate in a few months time. Then I'll be able to work and share for the monthly amortization. So given that case, the higher monthly amortization will not be much of an issue. There can be recomputation of the amortization anyway right? So if we get it, like until i am not yet earning, for 5 years to pay, then when i get a stable job, we can ask to shorten it to 3years, thus lower interest, right? Just hoping to land on a good paying job asap. :)

Being the excited me, I kinda want the car as soon as possible. Just to have the convenience for my family since we have a 1 year old baby. It's very much of a hassle when you dont have your own car.

Aside from this concerns, what can you say about the avanza - avp? And can anyone confirm the FC of both vehicles?

TIA!

Have you considered the Avanza's big bro the Innova? The 2.5 J Diesel M/T is at the same price as the Avanza 1.5G A/T. It is more fuel efficient than the Avanza because the Avanza I think is a bit under power. The Innova also is much roomier with a seating capacity of 8.

If I were you, I would wait until you get the job and make sure you have enough to pay for the car and your family. It's hard to do both at the same time. If you want a car right away then go for something smaller like a Vios. That would fit you, your wife, your child and a yaya easily.

I wouldn't go for the APV because in the long run you will suffer because of resale value and maintenance cost. I think Suzuki parts are hard to get.

Yes we have considered the Innova, but it's out of the price range. We didn't want to get the J model. But since you've mentioned it, we might reconsider the Innova. :)

Im single btw. No child. Haha. The kid's my ate's. Anyway, I believe the family's monthly budget is around 15-20k (even without my share). For the Innova, if i remember it right, it's around 23k for the 2.5 E Dsl. Though the vios fits right into the budget, it doesn't have enough space for all of us. Like I said, we are 5 adults, 1 kid, and sometimes we have to bring the yaya bringing us to 6 adults + 1 kid. That's why minimum requirement for us is a 7-seater MPV or mini-van.

From what I read in other forums, Suzuki has a good reputation when it comes to maintenance and parts, it being a Jap Company. They also offer a standard 3yr warranty for the maintenance of the vehicle, I'm just not sure if that includes parts replacement.

It's really hard to get a car if you're tight on budget and you need it asap. Haha.

Still thanks @bvnzn.

Other thoughts guys? Would really appreciate your help. TIA.

You mentioned the Toyota Innova E variant. If you can afford it, go for it! But if not, go for the Toyota Avanza. :D
