If you have maxxed your car out, how fast does it go? :)

My project car has done 219kph on the SCTEX.

Rock stable at that speed. No vibrations from the suspension or wheels.  Steering was pretty much arrow straight.

Only a slight visible "rippling" seen on the carbon fiber front hood at speeds in excess of 190kph.

Flat out ZERO.  :o By the way, is it true that you'll be apprehended in NLEX for driving beyond 100 kph? If it is, that's flat out KJ.  :(

I'm not really familiar with that because i've never been apprehended in NLEX because i'm a law abider... ;D

But i think it's better to drive flat out in SCTEX...it's got wider and smoother roads... :)

But you know peeps, one thing a speed freak should never miss before he dies is to drive a Porsche Carrera GT flat out on the Deutsche Autobahn. Especially the A8 from Stuttgart to Munchen and then back. It's one of the fastest sections in the Deutsche Autobahn connecting two of Deutschland's car capitals. Just don't forget to turn the stereo off for maximum enjoyment!  :D By the way, earning a driver's licence in Germany is not easy aside from the fact that you need to know how to speak in German. Just ask the students from the Fahrschulen.

well, not exactly 100kph... they kinda give a "leeway" on the speed so you can cruise at 110kph in relative safety from being stopped for speeding.  ;D

The main advantage of SCTEX is the straightness and properly banked highway.  Also having much less traffic helps maintaining a high speed of travel along this highway.

The 100kph speedlimit on this road is really too low.  Makes people sleepy and that could be more of a hazzard to everyone else.

Are there any people or cameras that will catch you if you're speeding in SCTEX?

There is the highway patrol but you can see them if they are on duty.  Just look for the white unmarked Toyota Hilux parked on the side of the highway or on top of a crossing bridge over the SCTEX.  If you spot one parked without any other vehicle near it, chances are its on "speeder" duty.  If you see one with another vehicle, it would be assisting that vehicle.  Best to slow down to below 150kph to avoid being too obvious about your speed.

The usual tactics in avoiding getting caught is simply slow down to legal speeds before reaching a blind rise or curve in the highway.  When you reach the rise/curve, take a good look into the distance for that HILUX parked somewhere.  If none are seen, accelerate to your preferred speed.

So far no automated cameras installed on the SCTEX.

Honestly, the skyway is too short to really enjoy the speed.  The SCTEX combined with the view (mountains, etc) makes the drive much more enjoyable.  And if you are heading towards Subic, you can enjoy having a hot meal at one of the restaurants there and even some duty-free shopping as well before heading back to Manila.  ;)

Best to slow down to below 150kph to avoid being too obvious about your speed. --- Really? That's good news. I thought they have those speed traps that can really measure your speed.

But driving flat-out in a long straight road can also be boring and dangerous because the driver might be tempted not to pay close attention. By the way, the Via Appia has the longest straight road in Europe totalling 62 kilometres. I'll be really impressed with the driver who can drive his car straight through that road, pedal to the metal.  ;D

Anyone here who loves twisty mountain roads? I do.

So far the highway patrol along the SCTEX is limited to using radar guns linked to video cameras in catching speeders.  They don't yet measure your average speed over a fixed distance.

Eh? .... and compare that do driving at 100kph on a long straight road that can lull anyone to sleep isn't also dangerous? ... I would rather drive at a higher rate of speed because it would keep my attention on the road ahead.
