Best to slow down to below 150kph to avoid being too obvious about your speed. --- Really? That's good news. I thought they have those speed traps that can really measure your speed.

So far the highway patrol along the SCTEX is limited to using radar guns linked to video cameras in catching speeders.  They don't yet measure your average speed over a fixed distance.

But driving flat-out in a long straight road can also be boring and dangerous because the driver might be tempted not to pay close attention.

Eh? .... and compare that do driving at 100kph on a long straight road that can lull anyone to sleep isn't also dangerous? ... I would rather drive at a higher rate of speed because it would keep my attention on the road ahead.

But whatever the speed is, full attention is required at all times. Do you think speed bumps really help?

Speed bumps? Nah! it just controls the flow/speed of traffic but doesn't help in making a driver any more alert.

210kph only. havent brought my car to SCTEX and NLEX yet.  i did the 210kph in skyway from the toll plaza to makati exit.

Honestly, the skyway is too short to really enjoy the speed.  The SCTEX combined with the view (mountains, etc) makes the drive much more enjoyable.  And if you are heading towards Subic, you can enjoy having a hot meal at one of the restaurants there and even some duty-free shopping as well before heading back to Manila.  ;)

I agree. skyway is too short. i'll try SCTEX next time i go north.

Based on wikipedia:

Top Speed for BMW e36 316 sedan: 191 to 195 kph (depending on engine code version)

The STAR tollway highway isn't that safe to go really really fast because of the way to road rolls and changes direction.  Just doing 150 to 160kph is pretty much the limit of the typical road cars we drive.

As for me, I have done a peak of 165kph on Star tollway in my Corolla.  I haven't tried my Sentra on it though.

Has anyone here experienced oversteer whilst braking hard? It happened to me twice.

You might want to have your brake balancer checked and adjusted.  Chances are, your rear brakes locked causing the rear to rotate forward.
