What were your parent's ride(s)?
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:16:14 pm »
I'll start:
My mom's first car was a 1971 Toyota Corolla KE20

She started driving it in 1978. According to my mom, it was 23K when it was new. It was sold by the time I was born. Sad. Probably explains why I'm a frustrated old schooler.

My mom's ride in Okinawa:

Dad is a self employed builder. He cannot afford new so was always buying old cars and vans, although for a while he could afford a car and a van, but still not new ones.
First van was an Austin A35 - like the one in "Curse of the Were-Rabbit". Next came an A55, a Bedford CA, and an FX4 London Taxi. After that he was on Mk1 Ford Transits for a few years, a Mk1 Escort van that I learned to drive in, before getting a "Light weight" Land Rover. This was followed by a Series 3 Land Rover. These days he prefers to run estate cars as he gets all his materials delivered to site, so only has to transport his tools.
Cars I can remember him having were an Austin Cambridge (Farina shape) several Rover P4's before slumming it in a Ford Anglia which Mum made him sell after a few weeks. This was replaced by a Mk2 Ford Consul, then it was vans only for a few years. When I left home he got himself an Austin Allegro, followed by a 4WD Subaru estate that had the best heater in the world - very essential in the North of England! The Subaru lasted him many years and he has since run various Vauxhall Astras.

My mom's first ride was a 1980-something Ford Laser, 2nd-hand acquisition from a relative. Now she drives a '04 Honda CRV.

My dad's very first purchased is a circa 70s Cortina (preceding the model that was pictured in another thread).  This to distinguish from our very first family car, an Australian import Fold Falcon estate (brown with heavy wood trims), which was given to us by another relative. The last car he owned before passing away was a 1992 Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck.

Our first family car is a '56 Chevy Bel Air, I wish we have preserved it.  Then we had a 1968 VW Beetle which was handed down to me when I went into college.  We also had a Lancer SL (Boxtype), a '78 Colt Galant and a 1st gen Toyota Tamaraw.

I'll try to look for photos next time!

My dad has owned a lot cars in a span of 40+ years, but his first one ( I think its all the same for people his age) was a VW Beetle, he was still single then. The first brand new car he ever bought was a '72 Opel Rekord, its still with us because of sentimental reasons, yun nga lang naging tambakan na ng kung anu ano. The first car that my dad had that I can recall was a '78 Toyota Crown, at that time we also had a '74 Datsun 200C, that was around 1980. The Toyota Crown was eventually replaced by his first MB, a '76 W115 200 which was replaced by a brand new '83 W123 200. After that my dad never looked back and has owned every iteration of the Mercedes E-class series except for the W211 series, his current ride is a W212 E300. The car the he owned  the longest is his W124 260E which he had from 1992-2005. But its still in the family, its mine now.

I guess its partly my dad's fault why I'm so hooked with MB's 8)

My Dad owned a VW Beetle, I'm just not sure if it was a 1958 or 1957. Anyway, nasa garahe parin yun hanggang ngaun at nabubulok. Plano ko nga irestore pg nka uwi ako ng Pinas.

My dad owned a Ford Escort. After that is a Toyota Corolla "Big Body" which, until now, is still alive and very well-maintained and physically modified. The engine is still stock. :D
