7 reasons why I'm (still) excited about Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Despite the nasty storm the messenger delivered a very special package on June 24. These babies arrived: The Covenant Car Company Incorporated, also known as Chevrolet Philippines, became my favorite corporate entity this week because they're sponsoring a screening of Tranformers: Dark of the Moon in 3D. I may not be a fan of 3D (it's overrated and you usually lose some of the movie's brightness because of the tinted glasses) or SM Cinemas (bad memories of Megamall's sticky floors, plus the fact that they don't seem to take care of their theaters the way Ayala or Eastwood does), but in the end it's still the movie. And when it's a Transformers movie, we drop everything to catch it. Here's why. 1. It should be better. The premise of the United States Apollo program being based on investigating a crashed Transformers spaceship is interesting. I'm hoping director Michael Bay has learned from his last Transformers movie. Don't get me wrong, I liked TF2 a lot. But that movie had more plot holes than our nation's politics. In a sense it was like the Star Wars prequels; plenty of room for improvement but redeemed by several key scenes (usually those involving lightsabers in the latter). 2. Shockwave makes his appearance as a new villain, supposedly even more vicious than Megatron. 3. Megatron transforms into an armored Mack Titan tanker truck, kind of like a demented version of Optimus Prime. 4. There's a cool new Autobot named Sentinel Prime, and from what I've been able to research he's Optimus Prime's predecessor. 5. Optimus Prime looks more wicked than ever. And there's a scene in the trailer where he's plowing through the Decepticon baddies one after the other. It reminds me of his scene in TF2 where he took several of them at once. 6. There's a new leading lady in Rosie Huntington-Whitely. While I think nothing can replace the iconic scene of Megan Fox walking on the street to the tune of "Drive," Michael Bay knows how to portray his leading ladies in a steamy light. He was able to make Tea Leoni look hot in Bad Boys right? 7. It's a Transformers movie. They can make a dozen sequels and I will still pony up cash to watch it in the theater. And after that I will watch it on cable TV, and maybe watch it a few more times on my laptop. What can I say? I'm a sucker for robots that transform into cars and military machines then beat each other up, story be damned. Transformers photos courtesy of Paramount Pictures
