Kotse Audio Club celebrates its fifth year with a boom

Sound has always been an intrinsic part of the motoring experience. To many, the most memorable driving experiences have always had a soundtrack to them. Family vacations, college road trips, high school field trips battling over whose tape will be played—Metallica or Dr. Dre (it betrays our age)—nothing quite immortalizes motoring memories more than the music of that era.
With the Filipino love for cars and music, it was only a matter of time before a car audio community sprouted. In 2001, this love of car audio brought together the Kotse Audio Club (KAC). Its members are now among the most famous (and infamous) car audiophiles in the country.
On November 25, 2006, they celebrated their fifth year of existence. And what better way to celebrate than a sound-off competition? The chosen battleground was Ortigas Home Depot.
With an open invitation and a slogan that says, "Put up or shut up," the KAC competition proved to be one of the biggest car audio competitions in 2006. Several categories were created to suit the competitors' fancy: the SQ (Sound Quality) competition and the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) competition, which was the crowd favorite.
The Ortigas Home Depot be-came car audio mecca where car audio enthusiasts and different shops from different parts of Luzon all converged. The club recruited professionals in the pro-audio industry like sound engineers to facilitate in the event's judging.
By nightfall, the affair culminated in a raffle of prizes from the event's sponsors and the awarding of winners and special awards. As the night continued, food and drink flowed. Music was not a problem.
Even for non-participants, it was a treat just looking at and listening to the setups that took painstaking hours, planning, and boombastic amounts of money to create. And you didn't feel yabang on the part of the owners. The pride they felt was like showing off their firstborn.
From the cama-raderie and the spirit shown during the event, it looks like Kotse Audio Club will be around for years to come to educate and make the streets sound better.
