What is a car club? If your answer is a group of people who meet up in parking lots to show off their rides, you're partly right. But the full enchilada—car clubs that actually make an effort to make it worthwhile for enthusiasts to join them—is a little harder to come by. And one of the latest additions to that number is the Fortuner Club Philippines, a collection of enthusiasts who own the now ubiquitous but still beautiful Toyota Fortuner.
"Most of our members came from the infamously long Fortuner Owners' Thread on Tsikot.com," explains FCP president Vic Risma. The club was actually formed during an informal 'eyeball' of nine Fortuner owners and habitual thread posters only on July 5 this year. This was also the date of their website's (www.fortunerclub.net.ph) official registration, and membership since then has grown to an amazing 125 netizens. "We don't discriminate naman," says club member Migs Limon. "What's important is you love your Fortuner." Their tastes in bringing out the best in their 'Forts,' as they lovingly call their vehicles, are as eclectic as their membership. "Some are businessmen, some are doctors, may parlor owner pa! What brought us all together is a common passion for our Fortuners," says Vic.
In the short time that FCP has been in existence, it has already garnered corporate supporters like Toyota Motor Philippines, MiggyBoy Auto Accessories (responsible for bringing a good number of special Fortuner-exclusive accessories), Starbright Body Kits, LA Car Accessories and Tint Room, and detailing house Clean Habit.
"We're planning bigger EBs for club members. We're also looking at doing community work. But of course, we have to have fun with our Fortuners while doing all of that," shares Vic. Yes, the king of Toyota's IMV triumvirate has a loyal following, and what a following it is.
