All that Jazz
Save on gas while still cruising in style? Fear not, GD United has you covered
Words by Botchi Santos; Photography by Charles Custodio

The Honda Jazz is a TG favorite. We've all come to love its quirky good looks, fuel-efficient engine, seamless CVT, fantastic blend of ride, handling and balance given its diminutive tires, the roominess and versatility of the interior and overall ingenuity of the technology underneath the Jazz's skin.

Of course, the City benefits from the same technology, as both share the platform, internally known as the GD chassis. Imagine what happens when a significant number of enthusiasts fall for the GD. Why, they form a car club, of course!

GD United is an offshoot of the Honda Club of the Philippines, the officially recognized owners' and enthusiasts' club of the company that bears Soichiro-san's name, and was started on January 14, 2005. Since then, the club has gone a long way, now boasting over 150 members.

With their own website, www.jazzcityunited.org, technical concerns and FAQs are now immediately available for Jazz and City owners. Honda has been very supportive of the group, thus helping its growth and ensuring enthusiasm from all involved.

They've successfully organized two car shows: the Amazing Jazz car show held on January 16, 2006, and Pump Up That Jazz on July 9, also this year, in cooperation with Honda Cars Kalookan.

Regular activities include fun runs to almost any place with decent roads. Track days are held at Subic International Raceway (SIR, how appropriately Honda), with driving instruction being given by GD United founding member and former racer Mikko David, plus the usual tambay nights at a Shell station for northern members, and Petron Westgate in Alabang for the southsiders.

GD United is also active in regular Honda fuel economy run events.

Should anyone wish to inquire about club membership or simply join in the fun, you can log onto their website, or contact Jonee Pabiania at mobile number +63917 885-6633.

Sign up, and be part of a growing club that's not only car-conscious but peso per kilometer-conscious as well.
