Legit CC
Go legit
Understated style can go a long way. European looks (and the attitude to match) make Legit CC stand out
Words by Paulo Subido, Photography by Lucky Besa

What is the point of having a Euro-inspired car in the third-world Philippines anyway? These guys are asked that question a lot, but for many of them, it is all a matter of personal preference and taste. Who cares if other people don't agree with (or understand) their style? It can't be denied that these 'Euro-meisters' have some of the nicest rides in the metropolis.

You see, the Euro-look makes the cars seem brand-new despite their age, says Marvin Monteroso, the 'unofficial' president of Legit CC. "Maganda at malinis lang talaga tignan."

We couldn't agree more. More than twenty members arrived for the shoot, and Top Gear was in for a crash course in what it takes to have the look.

The most obvious additions to these rides are the Euro plates, of course, but look closer and you will notice the simple nuances that make these cars, well, Euro. Strategic application of matte-black paint on often overlooked exterior components—such as the side mirror stalks—does have an effect on the overall vibe of the car. Other things to look out for are the European domestic market headlamps and cornering lights, roof-mounted antennas, and the proper OEM European rims or hubcaps.

If you see one of Legit CC's cars on the road, you will almost think that these came straight from Germany. And in a manner of speaking, they probably did. Some members have gone as far as importing whole body panels, hoods and bumpers from friends and suppliers abroad.

We can't ignore the fact that there is still a Pinoy vibe to the group, though. So even if you are lacking in funds, you can still achieve the same effect with a little do-it-yourself ingenuity. Case in point is Marvin's blue Mitsubishi Adventure.

Legit CC was established in April 2005. It now has over 200 members on the Internet and over 40 members on the road. These guys enjoy meeting up to eat and party, and they have gone on the occasional karting spree. More plans for out-of-town road trips are under way as well.

A style that is slick, simple and clean is all you need to be part of this month's car club. For those in the know, it is quite simple to spot a Euro-inspired ride. But those who are not may wonder what makes Legit CC's cars stand out. These rides may not have the garish rear wings and the massive fiberglass body kits (which some find aesthetically offensive anyway), and yet you won't stop looking until you figure out what makes them so appealing and fresh.

It is the little touches that matter, and beauty, as they say, lies in the details.
