Hyundai Accent, Ford Fiesta or Honda Jazz?

Hi, Botchi!

I'm looking for a fuel-friendly car and I’m choosing between the Honda Jazz, Ford Fiesta and the Hyundai Accent. We are three in the family and we're living in Zamboanga City.

What is the best car for us to buy? Do you have suggestions other than those I've mentioned?

Your kind attention would be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Anne

Hi, Anne!

Thank you so much for your email. We apologize it took a long time for us to respond to your query as we get tons of emails everyday. Anyway, I hope all is well with you guys down south.

For a small family of three, the cars you picked are the ideal ones, indeed. The Honda Jazz is my favorite because it's got it all: space, style, excellent driving dynamics and a very versatile interior. You can fold the seats down and haul serious gear, or put the seats up and take four adults out on a road trip from Zamboanga to Laoag in perfect comfort. You'll also get excellent power and fuel efficiency in the process. Since it's a Honda, it would also feel like a premium quality item, thanks to the heft in the feel of controls, the doors, steering, knobs and switches. If I myself were to have only one car, I'd definitely pick the Jazz.

The Ford Fiesta is my second choice, and a very close second at that! It has a sharper, more exciting driving feel than the Jazz, with perhaps a better, more well-rounded suspension that offers great compliance without giving up any feel and precision when driving hard. The interior is far more modern, and you can even connect your mobile phones via Bluetooth to the Fiesta's in-car electronics. The Fiesta also provides a fantastic race-car like seating position that offers good visibility. The only reason the Jazz trumps the Fiesta in my book is that its backseat isn't as roomy. Its roof is also lower, making it slightly more difficult to get and out of the car. The rear doors, with their stylish swoop, also cuts the size of entry. Ford eschewed the mini-MPV look, which is currently very popular in Japan, giving the Fiesta a more youthful and vibrant feel.

The Hyundai Accent offers fantastic value for money. It looks the newest and freshest, and it is perhaps the most daring--design-wise--among your options. There are some clunky noises from the suspension--nothing serious but definitely bothersome--but the engine, transmission and driving feel are very good. More serious though is the relatively tight backseat; the Jazz is very roomy, and the Fiesta is roomier than the Accent. If you can spring for the diesel variant Accent though, that would be fantastic as it would offer better fuel efficiency and far cheaper running cost. The diesel variant will theoretically be the cheapest to own and run. The problem is there's still no word regarding its availability and you'll have to expect a very long waiting time as many consumers are also anticipating the Accent diesel.

If you need space, the Honda Jazz is king. If you want a fun and exciting driving feel, it's hard to beat the Fiesta. But if you want value for money, the Hyundai Accent, especially in diesel trim is the way to go.

Good luck. I hope this helps, regards to your family and God bless. Take care!

Among the three, my personal top pick would be the Jazz, but that at the moment has supply issues.

For the Ford Fiesta, if you are opting for a Manual, then I would suggest that although I wish they brought it in as a 1.6MT. Anyway, I actually have a beef with transmission of the 1.6AT at low gear between 1st and 2nd gear. It is a constant occurence in our vehicle wherein the car feels like it can't find a gear so it "shudders" (for lack of a better word). I heard news that Ford was working on updating the transmission software for the Focus and Fiesta but up to now, it is not yet here.

The Accent is also a good vehicle I cannot comment on the back seat though.

My wild card, if the budget really is hovering around 800k is actually the 1.8AT Ford Focus 5-dr. It's a hatch, has a bigger engine and is also roomier (for me) compared to the three you have shortlisted. it also has the storage capability you may need and does look too small if you have a big built.

Good luck in your purchase. Cheers!

I am fine with Botchi's decision here:
If you're after more space: Jazz
    Sleeker and funkier ride: Fiesta
    Economy: Accent

Botchi was right on the clunky noises from Accent's suspension, and to the overhead handles that whips back to the car's ceiling which sounds awful: Sayang ang Accent good sana pero, masyadong tinipid. :(

FIESTA is the Best choice, IMHO, here. :) Lovin' that styling!. Para talagang matchbox! Parang ang sarap pa set-up-an!

Laki ng ginanda ng Jazz ng i-facelift.. Maluwag pa.. But I love the rear of the Fiesta.. Accent kung hindi Top of the line kasi value for money yung 1.4L M/T at A/T nila e.

    Interior & Cargo

Like the performance and the exterior design, the inside, too, reminds me of a more substantial vehicle. All the fabrics, buttons and plastic panels are of good quality. The textured dashboard and design look futuristic and sleek.

Hyundai had a new Ford Fiesta on hand during my test of the Accent, and I compared its high-quality interior with that of the Accent. I'd say the two are nearly on par, with Ford having a few more instances of chintzy materials, especially the flimsy plastic door handles, while the Accent has substantial chromed handles.

The front seats are also quite comfortable with good support. I drove for an hour and sat as the front passenger for about an hour and felt no twinges of discomfort. The rear is also rather large, ferrying adults in relative comfort with 33.3 inches of legroom and 47.2 inches of hip room. Both numbers are behind the spacious Fit at 34.5 and 51.3 inches, respectively, but are favorable to the Ford Fiesta's 31.2 and 49.2 inches, respectively.

At 13.7 cubic feet, the sedan's trunk is good, identically sized to the Yaris sedan and ahead of the Fiesta's 12.8 cubic feet. The hatchback's cargo area leads the class at 21.2 cubic feet, significantly bigger than the four-door versions of the Fiesta (15.4) and Yaris (9.8). The Fit is closest at 20.6 cubic feet, but when you fold the rear seats flat, the Fit wins with its 57.3 cubic feet versus the Accent's 47.5 cubic feet.

When did the Accent become tighter than the Fiesta? Maybe he was confusing the old one with the new one? Personally, I'd take the Accent, but only the top of the line 1.6L. The 1.4L versions still have unresolved fuel knocking issues and I would not be recommending it until those are fully resolved.

choose the honda jazz... BUT.... go for the JDM version honda jazz (japanese import)... better reserve a unit now.

i would recommend the diesel variant accent for the best fuel economy BUT stay clear if you don't want your car to be mistaken for a taxi.

can't comment on the fiesta because i've never driven, owned or even rode in one.

There are currently recurring problem on A/T Accent nowadays, esp the 1.4 A/T...
fuel knock and lack of power if using lower Octane gasoline.
The casas were fixing the problem by reporgramming the ecu but the problem still persist on other units.

Sir Botchi. sana pag mag reply kayo sa WCRC ilagay nyo rin mga problema sa kotse na yon. like sa Fiesta yung Rack and Pinion or Headlight etc. Sa Jazz yung mga RECALL. or sa Accent yung.. well.. hahaha! ask mga kawawang owner. I know you dont want to be rude but man some readers here are going to spend their hard-earned money for a car and andami kawawa naman kasi lets face it, bulok ang napili nila. Sayang ang pera.
