Could Subaru’s first electric STI model look something like this?

We now know that Subaru is going electric, and that its first venture into the BEV game is the Solterra. The crossover’s actually closely related to the Toyota bZ4X, only it has a more normal moniker. Anyway...

In addition to the 200hp+ and the 450-500km of range, Subaru confirmed that the Solterra will have an all-wheel-drive option available. Performance will still be there, so that’s cool. But as Subaru goes electric, there’s a certain three-letter badge we’re starting to wonder about, and if it will continue to live on in the age of EVs: STI.

Subaru has made no mention of an STI version yet, and we reckon we won’t hear anything from the Japanese carmaker in this regard. At the very least, though, we have an idea of what a Solterra STI might look like thanks to artist X-Tomi Design. The creator of various STI concepts in the past has now done his work on the new electric Subie, and it looks exciting.

In this concept design, the Solterra STI retains the lines and overall shape of the original front fascia, but it gets an entirely new grille flanked by bigger headlights. There’s a hood scoop, too, but we reckon that (and the grille) won’t really have much functionality.

The Solterra STI also gets a new front-bumper skirt, side skirts, and blacked-out low-profile wheels. The crossover also sports what we can only assume is a WR Blue Pearl exterior finish with a black top. No photos of the rear nor any details about the electric powertrain were provided, so that’s about all we have for you.

If Subaru actually builds a Solterra STI, how would you want it too look like? This, or something else?
