Does the kalampag issue with Elantra have been already resolved?
  • carwiki Jun 07 2012 @ 07:36pm
    For me, Civic :)
  • jayzeter19 Jun 07 2012 @ 07:36pm
score 1 for elantra.. and a Half for the civic :D
  • jayzeter19 Jun 07 2012 @ 07:41pm
i smell another epic comment fight among the JDM & KDM fanatics :D
  • isaac3654 Jun 07 2012 @ 07:47pm
For me, Civic. Before I wanted the Elantra more, but when I test drove then now bought the Civic, I preferred its tech, and though the Elantra's chassis is a bit more playful, the Civic's is more stable, especially at highway speeds. The steering in the Civic is sportier, because it has more center feel and better overall feedback.

      Very good note

      JDM for life!
  • ashek268 Jun 07 2012 @ 07:58pm
Overall: CIVIC. Elantra is a Great car. But not yet there. Civic's only let down is it's looks because of it's engineers and marketing genuises working at Honda. They have grown mature and old. And boring.
  • manongtaxi Jun 07 2012 @ 09:03pm
Civic will still have the play here because for me having an aftermarket support, especially a performance arm of a car company is one of the factors that you'll also like to consider, to widen the market that you'll cover. Though I'm not sure if Hyundai also have a performance arm? Like Honda having mugen, spoon, etc. Toyota having TRD, while Nissan have Nismo and the list just goes on.
    • Iniong Jun 07 2012 @ 11:30pm
sir, the civic 9th gen. are not released in japan market so parang wla po mugen, spoon, etc. parang civic 7th gen.
......but still for me civic padin.
  • mitsugas Jun 07 2012 @ 09:24pm
    civic nlng ako.
  • hajabah Jun 07 2012 @ 09:46pm
I just want to comment on the video. Your videography skills are outstanding. It's amazing. Almost Top Gear UK standards. :> Botchi's amusing as well.

I haven't personally test-driven either so I won't make an uneducated comment on my preference. Both cars seem competent though.
  • Fernando Amorsolo Jun 07 2012 @ 09:57pm
Wow! The Civic played well. Nagagndahan lang talaga ako sa Elantra. And yung power niya (Elantra) is supple. Pero the over all package: CIVIC :)
  • Aloha Milkyway Jun 07 2012 @ 10:46pm
Before I comment, let's NOT make this page a fanboy zone. Now, my pick would be the Civic. Why? It feels a wee bit more solid than the Elantra and feels more planted. That said, the Elantra decimates the Corolla Altis and the Nissan Sentra. None of these cars match the fun of the Lancer EX but that's for another day. Also, yes Botchi, pumayat ka HAHAHAHA. I'll treat you to some hotdogs if we meet lol
  • RS500 Jun 07 2012 @ 10:57pm
Civic. Japanese pa din. Naisip-isip ko din ung sinabi ni manongtaxi. Ung Elantra maganda siya both appearance and performance pero hanggang dun na lang. Maappreciate mo lang talaga siya as is.

Have driven both makes,in all aspects such as handling, performance, interior finish, legroom space, driving position, exterior finish and comfort,am afraid the Honda Civic is far advantage against the Elantra. In fact,if you joined in the Toyota Altis and Mitsubishi Lancer, the last 2 makes would be 2nd and third in ranking.not that i have something against Elantra, for the record.
  • roadrage Jun 08 2012 @ 07:02am
The best part of this video is the "Botchi-laugh"! Civic for me. How i wish the "green button" is removed to slash some Php from its price tag. For the filipinos, who wants to buy a civic that has a button to make it slower? Hello? Evidently, may identity crisis and iteration na to, nevertheless, between the two sa civic pa din ako.
  • wenski Jun 08 2012 @ 08:37am
    Civic
  • jojo204200 Jun 08 2012 @ 08:58am
Elantra is nice but still for Civic, after 10 years maganda pa rin ang Civic. Ang maganda lang sa Hyundai after 10 years ay ang Starex, just me.
  • jayzeter19 Jun 08 2012 @ 09:34am
for me it doesnt matter if its korean or japanese.. civic or elantra.. as long as you got a ride and you drive your still in a win win situation... we all know that korean cars have come a long way like hyundai and kia from a rough times and though the civic from race gen turned to ECON gen and design so bland.. Whats important is YOU HAVE A CAR.. ^_^

Is it just me? I have read THE VERDICT 3 times, and I honestly cannot determine which car triumphed in this May Issue SHAKEDOWN.

    Or is it a draw?

    TGP Editors, please enlighten me.
  • dextermorgan Jun 08 2012 @ 12:00pm
well as you can see their not entirely in the same class of market as the civic markets @1million above with its upcoming variants from thailand while the elantra is at tops 900 thousand. so you can see the diff just looking at the price:)
  • 16c galibier Jun 08 2012 @ 03:05pm
Both Cars are awesome but for me i'd get the Civic because of the quality and better handling and durability and the best part of the Civic is that it will last longer rather than the Elantra.
  • DePendot Jun 08 2012 @ 03:28pm
    CIVIC. ano ba?
  • boylambot Jun 08 2012 @ 03:34pm

“Sportiness†this is the concept from which the elantra was built. To achieve this, it borrowed cues from its bigger brother the sonata. Endowed with a 1.6 engine and paired to a six speed transmission to ferret out 128 hp while for the stronger variant 148hp is available for disposal while at the same time being frugal in fuel consumption. One of many reasons why this product bagged the car of the year award is because of its affordability at 888k for the 1.6 gl and 958k for the 1.8, all variants received safety features such as airbags, ABS, and disc brakes. While comfort features include power windows, locks, and mirrors. Power delivery is smooth and gaining speed is in no time. On the other hand the civic is base on ‘ maturescence’. The laid back design of the civic has been intelligently paired with 1.5 sohc with ivtec . this emphasizes the fact that Honda contrive an engineering design focussed on fuel economy and this sedan is meant for cruising. Gone are the days of ‘SIR’ character meant for upgrades in both aesthetics and performance. However, when you look at the latest civic there is that sense of elegance; it is not impossible to spot the sturdiness of the vehicle and its being faithful to quality inside out. In my humble opinion the Honda civic will age well vs the elantra. My youthful side tells me to pick the elantra but my reasoning begs to differ. The Honda civic will still be my pick

Medio may correction po ata tayo. 1.8 po ang engine ng Civic, ndi 1.5. Still the same R18A1 from the FD, and here's a trivia. The VIII Gen. Civic is the FD diba? The IX Gen. is called FB.
      • mindkinetic Jun 09 2012 @ 09:46am
tnx for the correction isaac3654, double tnx for the trivia.

  • Allain Jun 09 2012 @ 03:44pm
Magagalit ang mga taga HONDA nyan! Compare ba naman ang Civic nila sa Elantra!LOL
    • mts Jun 09 2012 @ 08:57pm
Sir - Kung magagalit sila (taga HONDA), what more kung malaman nila kung sino ang nanalo? Just wondering ;)
      • Allain Jun 12 2012 @ 04:10pm
Lamang ang Elantra sa Poll sa taas..hehehe
  • Allain Jun 09 2012 @ 03:54pm
Ang ayaw ko lang sa Civic is the carryover 1.8-litre engine and a 5-speed automatic. Although nilagyan nila ito ng "Eco Assist" feature meron din naman ang Elantra nito. Still the engine noise is not resolve.
    • Kyoichi Sudo Jun 09 2012 @ 11:49pm
What I don't like w/ the Civic is the removal of the standard Paddle Shifters and the 5-speed auto tranny. They should have priced it lower if they'll be removing some previous but important features.
    • someonespecialisme Jun 10 2012 @ 02:02am
sir, what engine noise are you talking about? sakit ba ito ng r18 ng civic? i drive a 1.8s FD..so far wala naman engine noise..
    • someonespecialisme Jun 10 2012 @ 02:05am
sir, what engine noise are you talking about? sakit ba ito ng r18 ng civic? i drive a 1.8s FD..so far wala naman engine noise.
      • Allain Jun 12 2012 @ 04:01pm
Sir the noise that im talking about is when the speed reaches 120 KM/H dinig na dinig mo ang ingay ng makina kaya dapat medyo malakas ang radio mo para di mo sya marinig. Though maingay ang mga makina ng Auto at this speed pero sa Civic naiingayan talaga ako. Sa Elantra naman maingay ang muffler pag medyo napa bigat apak mo sa gas pedal.
        • tandavid31 11 months ago
what civic did you drive ba? baka yung first gen pa ah.
  • jigg11 Jun 09 2012 @ 04:19pm
Elantra na. after a rear of two parang may helikopter ka na rin sa ingay na ibibigay nya.
  • g00dness Jun 09 2012 @ 05:10pm
Elantra is winning the poll above, but the Civic seems to unanimously win here in the COMMENTS (almost by a knockout). Is it a case wherein people profess their "love" for the Civic, and then vote for the Elantra in secret? Amusing!
    • Allain Jun 12 2012 @ 04:08pm
Hahaha oo nga ano! Maybe wala silang masabi about the Elantra. They just like Elantra because of the new design. Yung mga nag cocomment naman dito kung hindi sila Civic owner malamang mga Honda biased fanboys.LOL..
  • td21 Jun 09 2012 @ 11:13pm
Elantra. Masyadong complicated ang design ng Civic.
  • Radenbach Jun 09 2012 @ 11:52pm
sorry guys but i found it too trying hard to be a a REAL TOP GEAR presenter. not even close. sorry.

  • someonespecialisme Jun 10 2012 @ 02:04am
i generally love the civic..the way it feels and it kinda feels more solid than the elantra..what i hate about the civic is the way it looks...it looks just like any other car... unlike when the FD came out, it was sophisticated for its time..
  • Oris F1 Jun 12 2012 @ 07:26pm
Where is dtkiko and Hyundaibest??? I miss them already! hahaha!

Honda 1.8 EXI blows away any Elantra variant!
  • Djerms 8 months ago
I'd get the civic. I was a hyundai fanboy jumping from a honda FD. I'd forgive dash and interior rattles but suspension rattles (confirmed by casa and unsolved at 3tkms odo). Sold the damn car and bought the 2.0 Civic. Leaps more solid than the slanted H.
