To say that an automobile has a shot at being crowned Top Gear Philippines' Car of the Year is a pretty big deal--it's not a title we can just throw around every so often.

Making that declaration means the car in question immediately has a lot to live up to. This is why our consumer editor Botchi Santos is putting the Peugeot 308 GTi--the lead car on the cover of our July 2016 issue--under the heat of the spotlight when he says it might be worthy of the honor.

It's a good thing the sporty hatchback looks well-equipped to stand up to the pressure. We took it out to Bolinao in Pangasinan, where Botchi absolutely fell in love with the car's performance. "The engine is really a gem," he says. And did we mention the 308 GTi comes with a manual transmission?
