Fuel-economy-record holder shares tips for efficient driving

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Guinness fuel economy record holder shares fuel saving tips

Wayne Gerdes, half of the team that set a Guinness World Record for the lowest fuel consumption in a gasoline hybrid car, was in South Korea recently to share the techniques he and his co-driver, Chris Bernius, used to achieve a record average fuel consumption of 27.44 kilometers per liter in a Kia Optima Hybrid as they drove through all 48 adjoining states of the United States in 14 days.

Though five of the nine tips Gerdes shared benefit a car with a hybrid powertrain and features like the Optima Hybrid, he did share a handful of advice that may be used by any motorist using a conventional industrial-combustion engine. These include knowing when to start braking on the road and the most effective way to park a car.

Check out the tips from Gerdes in the video below.

can't help but notice that some, if not most, techniques here won't actually work in Philippine driving conditions :))
