Like the character Takumi in Initial D, Gaby learned about cars the opposite way people usually do: She began racing then learned about cars as she went along. Before she raced she didn't even know the difference between the common Civics and Corollas on the road. "At first I was in love with the racing experience, the driving, the speed, the g-force, the struggle to keep your neck there each time you turn. Over time I saw the beauty of the car also."

Here was a girl who loved driving so much, yet there are women who go through their whole lives without ever stepping on the accelerator. What led her to have this outlook so rare for her gender?

"Now that I think about it, I never really wondered why. It's kind of like asking me why I'm in love with someone, I'd just shrug and say 'I don't know.' It's just there, it's a feeling."
