Top Gear Philippines

Strike while the iron is hot.

With the country’s mass transport system still in a depressing state, many commuters are now scouting for an affordable motorbike that will bring them from Point A to Point B with no issues. Among motorcycle categories, mopeds account for a huge percentage of sales, accounting for 37% of the 1,140,338 motorcycles sold in 2016. With this, Yamaha Motor Philippines Incorporated (YMPI) wants to sustain the momentum in this phenomenal sector by introducing more exciting products.

Considered simple, affordable and dependable, mopeds are in-demand two-wheelers in the country nowadays. Being dependable workhorses, they are also the best choices for motorcycle taxis and delivery services.

Lat week, YMPI unleashed its new Yamaha Sight, powered by a 115cc, air-cooled, single cylinder engine now equipped with a new fuel injection system. The Sight's powerplant generates 8.7hp @ 7,000rpm and 9.5Nm @ 5,500rpm. Matched with a semi-automatic gearbox, the Yamaha Sight's acceleration should be smooth and seamless, making it a rider-friendly bike. The analog instrument panel with a gear position indicator will help riders maximize fuel economy.

With dimensions of 1,940 mm × 715 mm × 1,075 mm (LWH), this compact and nimble moped can squeeze through daily traffic with minimal effort from the rider. Front disc brakes provide ample stopping power when needed.

Although a budget bike, the Sight is endowed with exciting features. The headlight boasts of an incandescent bulb that provides a bright view of the road during night rides. On the other end, the sporty taillight blends with the new design side cowls adorned with graphics. An aluminum grab bar firmly mounted at the Sight’s tail end ensures the safety of the passenger. Under the seat compartment, a 4L space can swallow travel items, groceries and tools.

Yamaha is aware of the increasing incidents of motorcycle theft, which prompted this Japanese motorcycle company to install a reliable anti-theft system. Yamaha engineers also installed a protector on the Sight’s exhaust to shield the rider and passenger from heat burn.

The Yamaha Sight has two variants: A spoke wheel edition which is available in Black Raven and Red Metallic for P59,900, and a cast wheel version in Yellow Hornet and Black Raven finish for P62,900.

Are you buying a moped soon?
