Geneva preview: A lighter, more powerful Ferrari California

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Geneva preview: A lighter, more powerful Ferrari California

Ferrari is set to debut a lighter, more powerful version of the California grand tourer at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Utilizing cutting-edge aluminum fabrication techniques and construction technologies resulted in an overall weight reduction of 30kg that, according to the Italian carmaker, did not affect the car's structural rigidity and performance.

The Ferrari California's new exhaust manifolds and revised engine mapping bumped the power output of the car's GDI V8 engine to 490hp and 505Nm, 37hp and 5Nm more than its original output.

According to Ferrari, all these enhancements have improved the California's performance figures as its zero-to-100kph sprint has improved to 3.8 seconds, heightening its "sporty feel without detracting from the mission and character of a car that has won universal acclaim for its performance and exceptional versatility resulting from its retractable hard top and 2+ seating."

As an added option, Ferrari is offering the Handling Speciale package for the California. With its Magnetorheological dampers, faster electronic control unit, stiffer springs and new steering box, the California becomes even more responsive to driver inputs as body roll is minimized even further.

Delivery for the lighter and more powerful California, and its optional Handling Speciale package begin later this year with the first batch scheduled for Europe.
