Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hyundai lead sales in 2011

Toyota Motor Corporation continues to be the undisputed leader when it comes to car sales in the Philippine market.

Data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in the Philippines (CAMPI) showed that Toyota sold a total of 54,593 units in 2011. Despite a four-percent drop in sales from 2010 figures, Toyota's yearend result was still way ahead of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation's sale of 32,603 units.

Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc., which belongs to the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID), maintained its rein on the third spot with 20,297 units sold.

Ford Group Philippines, which claims to be the fastest growing company in terms of sales in the Philippines, kicked Honda Cars Philippines out of the fourth spot. Ford and Mazda collectively sold 12,196 units, 32.5 percent better than its sales in 2010.

Honda, which is still reeling from the impact of the disasters in Japan and Thailand, closed 2011 with only 11,611 sold, 30.1 percent lower than the number of cars sold in 2010.

Mixed results

While members of CAMPI posted a four-percent decline in overall sales, AVID members reported a four-percent rise in vehicle takeup for 2011. Data from members like PGA Cars and CATS Motors, however, are found in both CAMPI's and AVID's report.

CAMPI said its members sales in 2011 were mainly affected by the  "supply shortage on some units due to the effect of the  the flood that hit Thailand in the second half of the year.

AVID, on the other hand, attributes its growth to factors like the popularity of affordable passenger cars and the introduction of new products in the market.

"Wide acceptance of all-new nameplates and refreshed models, strong advertising, use of multimedia platforms, effective promotions and aggressive financing packages have boosted sales across AVID member companies," the group said.

No 1. ----- Ang TOYOTA puhunan ay dependability, credibility, practicality and RESPECT through the years

They let their CARS DO THE TALKING

I just hope the industry gets stronger this year. Same for ol' Honda. They were hit hard, too hard they got reduced to 203 sales last month. That's a lot less than even half of Nissan's.

Agree with Sir dtkiko, It's Mitsu's marketing approach.Though the 4D56 is an old mill & just tweaks with turbo & VGT but already proven that's why they utilized still. So what can we do now, it's their money & Pinoys still has high respect with the 3 diamonds brand.
If you ask me sir dtk, the Hyundai 2.2L is a much modern diesel than the 4D56, but what about reliability?

just driving along nlex kanina, may nakasabay akong mitsubishi montero na GTV model. Just tried to race it, (but of course i know that i will lose to it,hehe, trip lang ba), gusto ko lng subukan kung gaano ako maiiwan.haha. Just wondering, if that engine is continuously used/stressed to that power, meaning 90-100% sagad ang gamit ng power nya, i believe sooner or later MADALING/mas MAAGANG bibigay ang mga makina na ganyan ang pagkaka-disenyo. I mean, by the old adage, there is no replacement for displacement, my 3L engine and other Isuzu engines WISELY utilize their engine's capacity to generate ENOUGH USEFUL power, WIDE range of TORQUE (ito ang napaka importante dahil ito ay pickup trucks), giving them ISUZUs their ipinagmamalaking TIBAY, RELIABILITY, QUALITY. To add more, by utilizing these appropriate parameters to the engines NORMAL/CORRECT capacity, the result is high FUEL MILEAGE!
Also, everything beyond this fact follows.
It is the end results that counts.

Bottomline is that the number one is still the number one whatever is said. Same goes for the others down the list. A product sells well because of how it is being marketed and how the public perceives it. You ain't going to be number one if looks alone dictates the image of your product neither if its only cheap. It has to be a combination of both. A car must be reasonably priced, durable, practical, easy to maintain and must have good resale value after 5 years time. I'm a mitsu/honda fanboy but hats off to Toyota for being the best automaker in our country.

Toyota is like Nokia. Still remains in sales numbers but lag behind in terms of features & design. The Android OS & the Iphone OS will continue to dominate the Smartphones & those who know about cellphones will continue buying them. Nokia loyalists & those who are not aware of these technological advancements continue to buy Nokia. Exactly the same story as the Toyota loyalists & those car buyers who do not know much about cars - still thinking Toyota is the best. I'm not saying they're wrong, but sadly, in a third world country like the Philippines, it will take a lot of years before everyone gets educated & becomes aware that Nokia & Toyota no longer have the value for money that their products used to have.

As expected Toyota, Mitsubishi and Hyundai will end up as the top 3 selling carmakers in the country. Expect these three will still retain their positions also this year as they prepare to introduce new models / variants to have more hold on the market.

Choice is mostly based on what you think should be prioritized (gusto ko maintainable, gusto ko may dating, gusto ko malakas ang hatak, gusto ko maiba, etc.). At the end of the day, basta napapabilis ng sasakyan ang tibok ng puso ninyo kapag nakikita or nadridrive, tama po ang choice ninyo.

P.S. Kawawa talaga ang Honda, hope they bounce back.

    To: dtkiko
With all due respect sir, try to do some research first before typing your kind of comments. Honestly never has Mitsubishi claimed that they invented the VGT. Let me share you some history. One of the first production cars to use VGT was the limited-production 1989 Shelby CSX-VNT, equipped with a 2.2-Liter Chrysler K engine. In Japan, the 1989 Honda Legend used a variable geometry turbo with an integrated water cooled intercooler installed on its 2.0 L V6 engine, and was only manufactured for one year. In 1991, Fiat changed VGT turbocharger (Honeywell VNT) to Croma's direct-injected turbodiesel. The 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo has a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter horizontally-opposed six, and the turbos used are BorgWarner's Variable Turbine Geometry (VTGs). VGTs have been used on advanced turbo diesel engines for a few years, like the 1.9L Volkswagen TDI Engine, using the Garrett VNT-15 turbocharger, on the Shelby CSX-VNT (only 500 Shelby CSX-VNTs were ever produced, and 1046 Peugeot 405 T16s), or in Fiat's 1.9 JTD engines. Several companies supply the rotating vane type of variable-geometry turbocharger, including Garrett (Honeywell), Borg Warner, and MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries).

@dtkiko; sir not only the trailblazer will be blessed with a vm motori diesel engine the chevrolet captiva will also recieve a vm motori v6 diesel . vm motori which was previously owned by detroit diesel is now 50/50 owned by gm and fiat

    Nope, mindkinetic,
the General says the Thailand Rayong facility will manufacture Duramax four-cylinder diesel engines and that most of the Duramax engines will find a resting place in Chevrolet Colorado trucks, which will be made in Thailand and sold both domestically and abroad.
Maybe the Captiva engine has that VM Motori.

Longer specifications and latest technologies doesn't always equal to sales. Pinoys put durability, practicality and reliability above else when buying a car (or a cellphone?). Look at Isuzu and Toyota, still selling. That's why we are, in my opinion, a unique market to car manufacturers.

why do you people keep on bashing mitsubishi for, as you claim, claim that they invented VGT, never did they say that they invented it. its true that they were really aggressive in their marketing but thats just business. thats just how the business works.
for hyundai fanboys, especially sir dtkiko, you don't have to bash mitsubishi for doing that....thats just business. if you love hyundai, just be proud of it. truth is that 4D56 is still used and that the tech is very old, but maybe because its proven that its just reliable and they dont see any problems about using it....its just sad to know that the engine in your monty sport is the same as the l300...
as the saying goes "it it aint broken, dont fix it"
toyota, well...they are i guess really dependable and have a great rep...
but the way i see it, ford would dominate for the next years...i aint a ford fanboy..but i gotta admit..i love the new ford ranger.. im planning to get it when it arrives.. from a business perspective, ford really knows how to do their job properly....

lastly, were all car enthusiasts...stop the hate..spread the love..imagine if we gather in a grand eb..then away lang ng away..pangit nman...

a truck needs torque, thus this coming fuel-miser 4 banger TDCi 2.2L as what Ford specs says 375Nm torque ay ulam na.
think it is enough to say as workhorse for the truckyworld but the question now are the price & the cost of maintenance as FORD is always known to be costly brand & Fix-it Or Repar Daily / Found On the Road Dead.
