Toyota shows off refreshed Hilux

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Toyota shows off refreshed Hilux

In production since 2005, the Hilux is given a much-needed facelift by Toyota Motor Corporation to keep it looking fresh amid the heavy competition in the pickup truck market.

From the A pillar forwards, the Hilux gets a new bonnet, radiator grille, headlamps and front bumper to freshen its appearance. More prominent front and rear fender blisters and slightly redesigned door mirrors give the refreshed pick up a more masculine edge. Capping the facelift are, depending on the variant, redesigned 15-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Hilux gets a new upper dashboard design highlighted by a new, horizontal center instrument cluster to reinforce the breadth and roominess of the cabin. Incorporated in it, at least for the European market, is the Toyota Touch, a 6.1-inch, full-color, touchscreen multimedia unit.

Underneath the sheet metal, the revisions to the Hilux are led by the introduction of variable nozzle turbocharging for the 2.5-liter D-4D engine. This boosts its power output to 144hp and 343Nm of torque while simultaneously improving its fuel efficiency to 13.698 kilometers per liter, and lowering its carbon dioxide emission to 193 grams per kilometer.

In addition, the chassis design of the 4x2 variants have been replaced with that of the 4x4 models. Not only does this improve the ground clearance of the 4x2 models but it also increases its towing capacity to 2.5 tons.

The refreshed Hilux is due to hit the global market later this year.

Not too bad but I'm sure we will be getting the third world edition, no life saving equipments like ESC and ABS.

The new Hilux looks great..I won't compare it with the new Ranger cause the new Hilux right now is just an update and not a full model change like the new Ranger will do next year.

So they finally upgraded the 2.5L engine! It only mentioned variable nozzle turbocharging, does it have an intercooler this time around? And what did they do to upgrade the 3.0L engine?

Ganda ng new face at new dashboard, looks much better and much refined, kaso underpowered pa rin kahit VGT turbo na, or what they call variable nozzle turbocharging.

@GTi, may intercooler po yun kasi may hood scoop, yun naman po ang gamit ng hood scoop eh. Kaso 144 HP lang!

Nice front and dash, I'm guessing this will be the final update before the all new IMV platform is introduced 2 years from now.
To those saying it'll be underpowered, you also have to look at the hp and torque curves. Numbers don't mean anything if you have to rev it up to 3k rpm just to squeeze the advertised power out.

its a rap, toyota had given its premier pick up truck a refreshed look, well other gearheads dreams for more new design like ford did to its deer (ranger) but lets hope competitions with other trucks on the market will become nice and only for sports, i cant wait to hop in with one of these , and i just wish that toyota, ditch its old interior look, i know it risks more money to hire at least 3,000 human individuals to decide on where each buttons go for the interior , but its worth for our money, right?

144hp and 343Nm of torque? I'm guessing this is just for the 4x2 models? The previous generation 3.0 d4d engine was rated at around 164hp and 340nm.

Exactly, this is the exact product of Toyota-Subaru collaboration... @ last MIAS, Russ Swift stunt show staffs used Toyota HiAce van badged with Subaru emblems.

    =)

All they have to do is bring their top selling pickup truck (Tacoma) from the US instead of this 3rd world crap but they never will. My van got more horsepower than this pickup and it's a lot older...

Hope they would sell a cheaper stripped down 4x4 verison like the strada GLS,navaraBRUTE or the Dmax LT4x4.

troybentz let's wait and see if they'll bring in the 2.5 Liter E 4X4 variant of the new Hilux!

@Pininfarina - but this 3rd world crap became the first to drive to the north pole and also scaled an Icelandic volcano near the mouth. Other trucks are also good, but for me these speak loads of the Hilux's toughness. The Tacoma I imagine is hardly better.

@ rs500 yeah i agree, but i also agree with silvesters opinion, i see an atom subaru like design , hehe, well i also agree with this pick up truck, its been one of my favorites since when it was then first launched, moreover the axe pick up truck hehe. wanna bet if the other car companies would also release a new design? mitsubishi for instance, i cant get the reason of the new facelift of the strada. but its a rap. even now that it has the V version, i also wish that toyota could have a gps for its cars here in the philippines.

Very nice, but ill wait for the ford ranger and make a comparison. Ranger really looks different from the old one. This one is just a facelift. Toyota is reliable and easy to maintain. Ford parts and service are expensive. This will be an exciting year for pick up buyers.
