All-new Ford Ranger is finally here

By Patrick Everett Tadeo

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - The all-new Ford Ranger is finally here!

The long wait is over. After announcing at the 2012 Manila International Auto Show that the all-new Ranger will officially go on sale by July, Ford Group Philippines has just revealed that the Philippine-market units are already here.

"We are thrilled to start deliveries of our class-defining all-new Ranger and invite our customers to test-drive the Ranger at their nearest Ford dealership," said Dino Obias, FGP's assistant vice president for marketing.

The Ranger is available in three variants: the 2.2-liter XLT 4x2 with a six-speed manual transmission at P1.069 million, its six-speed automatic-gearbox counterpart at P1.119 million, and the 2.2-liter XL 4x4 at P1.179 million.

Over 400 orders have reportedly been placed for the Ranger, so just in case you're wondering if the order you placed isn't here yet, don't worry as we've been told there are more batches of this highly-anticipated pickup coming this month.

The Ranger's arrival couldn't have been timed more perfectly, as the rainy season has cause Metro Manila roads to flood lately. This pickup has a water-fording capability of up to 800mm even when fully laden.

    Diesel or Gas?
    • vonschnipp 11 months ago
Diesel of course, it's sourced from Thailand, not the US

The old Ranger was better than Hilux and Dmax specs-wise but I've seen very little on the roads. Again this new Ranger maybe the best at 2.2 to 2.5 liter engines but I doubt if Ford will convert this to best selling pickup in our country. As we know, perception in one of the factors for any brand to attract buyers and not only the range topping specs and/or the competitive price. Anyway, the move of Ford will make other brands to improve or upgrade their products or even lower their prices if it's really necessary. We, the customers, will be the winners and will be benefited with the US-Japanese war.

I agree, but I would really love to see an Isuzu RT-50 here, Isuzu is not the fastest or the strongest but I rest assure they are the most durable truck out there.

Maybe Better. The same surprise given to us last 2009 when the current gen Eve was launched ;)

nice but 2.2 displacement is a turn off compared to it's rivals.
    • ride-on 11 months ago
this 4 banger 2.2L is not issue with a 150hp. see the 2.0L VW Amarok.
the only concern, is it sensitive to our fuel quality Euro 2 diesel?

toyota d4d, mitsu DID suffers injectors & SCV problems.
    • SAS77 11 months ago
It also has a 3.2 version which unfortunately will only be available next year.
    • Nutcha 11 months ago
don't be confused of engine displacement, other rivals except (Navara and Strada VGT) has bigger displacements (2.5-3.0) but they produce less power and torque.. this ranger engine beats them at only 2.2 liter displacement (150hp@375NM torque).. and their 3.2 Liter engine 200HP@470NM torque (coming next year) besides the ranger has 800mm water wading depth, traction control and rear locking differential, Hill Descent Control, Shift-on-the-fly (2H, 4H, 4L), 6 speed (manual & Auto) compared to rivals.. most important.. the price..

Huwaw! the long wait is over! it's finally here! the most awated Ute! wooohooo! too bad the 3.2;197 bhp; and 470NM of torque with a 6-speed manual and 3,350kg max towing capacity isn't here yet. i believe Ford thailand is still catering the needs of other bigger markets around the globe. this Pick up is WORLD WIDE(Except for the US), i can't wait to get my hands on this baby!
  • SpeedRazor 10 months ago
the 2.2L diesel engine has only 4-cylinder; while the big daddy 3.2 has a 5-cylinder on it! only add one more cylinder then it'll become a V6! woohoo!
