Universal Motors Corporation--importer and distributor of Nissan light commercial vehicles in the country--has been awfully quiet the last few months. Last we heard of the company, it was practically giving away the Navara pickup with a P95,000 discount and P20,000 worth of free fuel in a sales promo last March.
Now we know why UMC had such an urgent need to dispose of its Navara inventory: The face-lifted version is already here, as you can see in these photos.
These photos were sent to us by somebody who introduced himself as an employee of a Nissan dealership. "The all-new Nissan Navara is now available," he excitedly told us.
We take issue with the use of the term "all-new." As far as we can tell from these images, this latest version of the Navara is merely a cosmetic makeover, featuring a new grille, a new front bumper, new taillights, and new alloy wheels.
How do you like the new styling elements? Are these enough to help the Navara compete with the newer Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50?
