Berjaya Auto Philippines, the new distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, has revealed the price of the all-new Mazda 6 a day ahead of its launch at the 2013 Manila International Auto Show.
The all-new 6 is bigger in every dimension over the outgoing model. It's also bigger in nearly every aspect over its competitors and yet it's much lighter than its predecessor by nearly 30kg, thanks to the use of lighter yet stiffer material for its suspension and chassis.
Mazda's new midsize sedan is also equipped with features normally found on higher-spec'd 3.5-liter variants of its rivals, including:
* An eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory and lumbar support;
* Four-way power adjustable front passenger's seat;
* A 3.5-inch multi-information display in the main instrument cluster for driver management information; and
* A 5.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system ergonomically located in an elevated position on the center stack.
Beyond the already generous amount of interior kit, the Mazda 6 also boasts features that even the high-end variants of its competitors are sorely lacking, like the i-Eloop brake energy regeneration system, the i-Stop idling stop system, and 19-inch wheels.
Propelling the 6 forward is its high-compression 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G direct-injection gasoline engine that produces 182hp and 250Nm of torque. Mated to it is a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission that changes gear much faster than that of its similarly equipped competitors.
And how much is the new 6? Fortunately, with the Mazda brand now out of Ford Philippines' shadow, Berjaya Auto Philippines is free to price the 6 as it sees fit. That price is P1.705 million, which is exactly the price of the previous model (yes, they didn't increase the amount).
"The new 6 signifies a fresh direction for Mazda in the Philippines," said Berjaya Auto Philippines chief executive Steven Tan. "We are rebuilding the foundation to bring cars, SUVs and trucks that are exhilarating to drive, beautiful to look at, comfortable, safe, high-quality and, above all, incredibly fuel-efficient."
Shall we give the new Mazda distributor a big round of applause, then?
