TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - After 12 years, Volvo ceases production of the XC90 in Sweden

After a production run of 12 years and with 636,143 units produced, the Volvo XC90 has stopped being produced by the Swedish car manufacturer at its Gothenburg plant. The very last unit is set to roll off the line and be driven directly to the Volvo Museum also in Gothenburg.

The current XC90, however, will continue to be produced at Volvo's Daquing (China) plant, where it will now be labeled as the XC Classic and sold exclusively in the local market.

As for the next-generation XC90, it will be manufactured at Volvo's Torslanda (Sweden) plant "at the end of January 2015."

"Our all-new XC90 is not just a natural development from an incredibly successful car, but is also an excellent example of the transformation under way at Volvo, both within the company and from a brand perspective," said Volvo Cars senior vice president for product strategy and vehicle line management Lex Kerssemakers. "We look forward to a new era of success."
