Ford has updated the Focus ST, but besides giving it "new chassis control technologies, tuned suspension and steering, and bespoke tire specification," the American carmaker is now offering it with a diesel engine.
The first-ever diesel Focus ST has a 2.0-liter TDCi engine under the hood that produces 182hp and 400Nm, giving it a 0-100kph sprint time of 8.1 seconds before it reaches its top speed of 217kph. The fuel mileage of the Focus ST diesel is claimed to be at 27.3km/L.
The gasoline-powered Focus ST continues to solider on with its output increased by 23% thanks to electronic calibration, a revised air intake system, and a new sports-tuned exhaust. This gives the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine 247hp and 360Nm, a top speed of 248kph, a 0-100kph sprint time of 6.5 seconds, and a fuel mileage of 17.643km/L.
"The new Focus ST delivers an even more sophisticated balance of performance, driving dynamics, refinement and style--the core of Ford's Sports Technologies DNA," said Ford of Europe product development vice president Joe Bakaj. "Even more enjoyable and rewarding to drive and with the choice of diesel power for the first time, the new Focus ST is in a class of its own."
