After much anticipation, Nissan has finally lifted the veil off of its new midsize SUV. The Terra has just been launched in China.

The body-on-frame 4x4 SUV sports a beefy, Patrol-inspired body that befits a vehicle its size. Up front is the signature V-Motion grille adorned with boomerang headlamps. Muscular haunches run along the sides. In the rear, there are similar boomerang headlamps, while 18-inch alloys round off the exterior package. Ground clearance sits at 225mm.

Inside, there's room to seat five comfortably, and Nissan says it has more rear space and loading capacity than any other competitor. 'High-spec technologies' have been used to reduce NVH levels, and smartphone mirroring is available via the display monitor. Like all new Nissans, the Terra is equipped with the Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite of safety features.

"The Nissan Terra builds on our strong SUV heritage while incorporating the needs of the Asian customer and the performance of our refined frame vehicles," said Ashwani Gupta, senior VP of Nissan's light commercial vehicle division. "The Terra is a descendant of the Nissan Patrol, our tough off-road icon originally designed for police and military use."

The China-spec Terra gets a four-cylinder gasoline powertrain with 180hp and and 251Nm. Color options include Gold Metallic, White Pearl, Brown Pearl Metallic, Silver Metallic, Black Solid, and Red Solid.

Nissan says that the Terra will come to select other markets in Asia later this year. The question is, are we on that list?
