The lineup of Chinese cars in the Philippine market has expanded with the entry of Great Wall Motors Co., which has brought in six vehicles in the local market.

Great Wall Motors' exclusive distributor, Statemotor Corp., has opened two dealerships to showcase the Pero, Florid, CoolBear, Wingle, Hover, and Cowry.

Great Wall Peri and Great Wall Florid

Great Wall CoolBear

Great Wall Cowry
Great Wall Philippines also offers the Cowry (P885,000), which is propelled by a Mitsubishi-derived, 2-liter 4G63 MIVEC engine.

Great Wall Wingle
The Wingle, Great Wall's cargo-carrying workhorse, comes with a 2.8-liter, common-rail diesel injection (CRDi) engine Wingle and is available in 4x2 (P798,000) or 4x4 (P980,000) variants.

Great Wall Hover
Great Wall also brought to the Philippines the crossover utility vehicle Hover. It is powered by the same CRDi engine found in the Wingle, and is available in 4x2 (P998,000) and 4x4 (P1,150,000) trims. The 4x4 variant stands out with its full leather upholstery and a Webasto-branded intelligent sunroof.

Vehicles from Great Wall are designed to be environment-friendly as the gasoline-fed variants conform to Euro 4 standards, while diesel engines are all Euro 3 compliant.

Great Wall vehicles are on display in the company's showrooms on Alabang-Zapote Road, Las Piņas, and North Edsa, Quezon City.

  • daredevil says ripoffs, ripoffs, ripoffs...that's all these vehicles are. these "steal" market share from the other brands. it's not any different from pirated cds in quiapo. well, what did orig cd manufacturers/disctributors do? compete with pirated cds in terms of price, i.e. go down not as low as pirated but to a reasonable price for a quality product. (15 December 2009)
  • auee says what is sarao compared to greatwall i mean atLEAST they got their own to export. ya'll folks better watch out whom your barking at, they might just as well bite back, they're once poorer than any other countries but right now they're up there making names and looking DOWN at everyone else... • KRAM says yes, hummer is now in Chinese hands! Wait and see how the brand name crumbles in their destructive hands. Chinese automakers should stop making cars, they will only destroy lives! Imagine how these cars would fare in crashes! If their food products have killed because of their cost-cutting ingredients, how could we be so sure that they build road-worthy automobiles? Their cars are of cheap material and built like all the other Chinese products but look at their price tags, they aren't cheap! (15 December 2009)

  • rica says go with japan made cars, and not sa china.. kc mahina ang performance ng china:p (15 December 2009)
  • Jeff Aspacio says I think Great Wall has created a great impression with the looks and features of the models they released. The compliance with EURO-4 standards for their gas engines and EURO-3 for diesel engines makes a statement about how they want to be known for. These next year will be a test of the quality of the cars. I hope the quality is good, then they will be a great alternative for Filipinos because they are not as expensive as other popular brands. (15 December 2009)
  • BOOGIECAT says The Cowry is just a Toyota Liteace Noah-clone while the Hover is just a Isuzu Axiom-clone..Shessh get your facts straight people,to think na car fans kayo!!!..Many Europeans say that the GW Peri is way more reliable than the Fiat Panda!!Great Wall and other Chinese car companies are here to stay and there's nothing you can do Toyota-Honda FAGGOTS!! (15 December 2009)
  • porsche 911 says I agree hummer0623 not all Chinese products are bad quality and we never know if Chinese automakers can make world-class cars... (15 December 2009)
  • daredevil says Between Philippine-made Sarao and China-made crappy cars, I'd go for Sarao of course! Even if it's lower class, it's all-ORIGINAL and not a copy cat, unlike these bunch of china-made freaks...I am a Filipino and I am proud of my countrymen's achievements...are you not? (16 December 2009)
  • southboy says @boogie.. kaya nga comments ang nakalagay kasi more on opinions lang and not necessarily a fact.. bakit? ano ba sasakyan mo? (16 December 2009)
  • nolet says does anybody wonder if these cars can run on unLEADed gasoline? =P (16 December 2009)
  • BOOGIECAT says Sarao is just a lame jeepney manufacturer who lost its fame..These Chinese car companies eh mas may pera at manpower! (16 December 2009)

  • bambi says @daredevil - you should go to China and look at its' rise as an industrial superpower. Sarao? phew! thats a has-been. swallow your pride and wake up! pEACE! (17 December 2009)
  • ALEX B ESPIRITU says Great Wall Motors Vehicles looks promising.. If only they can back it up with availability of quality parts n maintenance service. It will surely catch buyers eye!!! Really Like the hover! looks like toyota's fortuner with a cheaper price. (18 December 2009)
  • skipper5398 says The problem with Chinese steel especially the body plating are madaling kalawangin, engine specs are good though. (19 December 2009)
  • BOOGIECAT says Mas madaling kalawangin ang L300 FB at Urvan kaysa sa Great Wall cars.. (19 December 2009)
Chinese are not like Koreans who have improved through the years. Lalo ng hindi sila tulad ng Hapon who persevered to improve their quality in the 60s. Ang mga Koreans at Japanese talagang naglabas ng effort to show their best. E yan mga Chinese, puro pangit reviews nyan sa mga magazines. I have read almost all of Topgear Philippines' Chinese car reviews at lahat sila hindi nabigyan ng magandang write-up. There is nothing good to say naman kasi. First, they are copycats, Second, walang reliability, Third, mura ba talaga sila para bilhin ng tayo? Yucks! Umaabot pa ng milyon ang mga second-rate trying hard copycats. What a disgrace! (20 December 2009)
  • KRAM says You want to buy these yucky cars? Let me show your alternatives. Wag masadlak sa mga bulok na to! GW Peri - Hyundai i10, Suzuki Celerio, Toyota Vios, Toyota Avanza GW Florid - Toyota Vios, Honda City, Hyundai Accent, Chevy Aveo GW Coolbear - Toyota Avanza, Mitsubishi Lancer (old model), Toyota Yaris, Mitsubishi Adventure GW Cowry - Toyota Innova, Suzuki APV, Nissan Grand Livina, Mitsubishi Adventure, Isuzu Crosswind GW Wingle - Nissan Frontier Bravado, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Strada, Ford Ranger GW Hover - Nissan X-Trail, Ford Escape, Isuzu Crosswind, Mitsubishi Adventure, Hyundai Tuscon, Kia Sportage The listed alternatives are DEFINITELY BETTER and maybe EVEN CHEAPER than those Chinese crap! (20 December 2009)
(21 December 2009)
  • happy says OMG!! attack of the clones!! kasu ndi cla perpectong clones kalahati lng kaya wag n kayu bibili nyan bumili nlng kayu ng galing japan at korea.... (21 December 2009)
  • Feliciano Sarabia Ababon III says here comes the chinese....almsot toyota like ang cars nila...may isa parang yaris/corolla verso ang isa scion type ang body with US Camry type of headlamps..haha...Good luck to them!.. (22 December 2009)
  • vinci24 says i like the looks of wingle. yung hyundai and kia naman nangongopya din ng design, try to look at kia forte mukhang 2006 civic tapos yung hyundai genesis sedan yung grill katulad ng mercedes benz. (22 December 2009)
  • ken says well, let's give them a chance. cherry after all is one of the fast-growing brands, in terms of dealerships popping out all over the country. indeed, there's a market for chinese vehicles. it's not aimed for everyone...especially not for those from the high-middle to upper classes. :) on a side note though, great wall looks way better than cherry. looks more expensive, dare I say, classy even. haha (29 December 2009)
  • Jiron Mohamad says I think mas magandang maghintay na lang na gumanda ang quality nila. Parang yung mga Korean brands ngayon. (30 December 2009)
  • Fernando Benter says what the F$%&K! look at this vehicles!..looks like clone of the original...i'm sick with Chinese cars...DONT BUY THEM!!! (31 December 2009)
  • abugeorge says let us not close our mind, and say toyota is good & chinese cars are bad, but think that these chinese cars bring down the prices of toyota, these 10% low down payment toyota today are unseen of in the past. I say let us have more chinese cars, and wait for toyota "buy one take one" promo. Those DVD player cost about US$5,000.00/each in the early 90, but with chinese mass production today, no thiefs even pay any attention to it because if is so cheap. I am looking forward to see the day when thiefs find stealing cars not wothwhile. (02 January 2010)
  • Mang Juan says FMC making these locally? Ruins nalang yung factory e. hahaha. Nanghihinayang nga ako e. or maybe ito talaga yung reason why. Baka gagawa ng bagong factory. Sa bahay ng Franciscos along Alabang-Zapote Rd. laging may Great Wall cars at Nissan Figaro. Sana ito na ang rebirth nila after their failed tie-up with Mazda. Also, wala nang Hyundai Matrix dito... (13 January 2010)
  • KRAM says CHINESE CARS = UNWORTHY, UNRELIABLE, UNORIGINAL (14 January 2010)
  • Rem says Hyundai made a proper agreement with Mitsubishi that's why they came up with the Starex. Unlike the Jac Refine which I think is a TRUE copy of the Starex, they copied it when they had a problem with the Chinese Car Manufacturer and Hyundai didn't allow them. madami na akong nabasa na na-demanda na yang mga manufacturers pero malaki kasi ang sare nila sa market kaya natakot yata na bitawan sila ng company. (18 January 2010)
  • AM3 says For those who don't feel like reading through everything, these are the cars GW based their models on... Florid: gen JDM "Toyota ist" aka old "Scion xA" Peri: Fiat Panda CoolBear: 1st gen JDM "Toyota bB" aka 1st gen "Scion xB" (24 January 2010)
  • finder says with reasonable prices and great designs, i think this brand will hit.(leaving others behind)jokes (24 January 2010)
  • finder says pls. dont under estemate the capabilities of their vehicles, maybe some of you are rich and can afford top of the line brands, but for those people who wanted to have rides with only a limited budgets...... , dont judge if you dont try... (24 January 2010)
  • OMG says ngayon ko lng nakita hahaha go to this site may makikita kayong hilux at frontier hahahaha http://www.gwm.com.cn/eng/html/models/sailor.asp (05 February 2010)
  • john says just passed by trinoma and saw a close-up of the coolbear. the body plating is solid especially the hood, feels like solid metal unlike hoods from mitsu or toyota auv's. the doors sound rock solid when closing and they definitely feel heavy which of course increases your sense of safety. it has all power amenities (windows, side mirrors), it has ABS an EBD for the front and EBD for the back drums. for PHP695K this is a steal. the color I saw was the pearl blue and it looked great even with the fluorescent lighting. I just hope the service is good though even if they have a standard 3 year warranty for the vehicle. we'll just wait and see. (18 May 2010)
