Ford to start selling Fiesta in Southeast Asia in 2010

The Ford Fiesta has moved a step closer to the local market as it made its debut at the ongoing Thailand Motor Expo.
Four-door sedan and five-door hatchback variants of the Ford Fiesta will be produced in Thailand and will be sold in Southeast Asia next year. Ford Group Philippines remains mum, however, on the exact month of the Fiesta's arrival.
Ford's plant in Thailand is also poised to export its vehicles to Australia , New Zealand and South Africa .
"The ASEAN launch will write the next chapter in our global Ford Fiesta success story and continue to highlight Ford's leadership in small car design and development. Stylish ASEAN consumers will appreciate the uniqueness and undeniable appeal of the Fiesta to express their individuality, style and sophistication," said David Alden, president of Ford ASEAN.
The Ford Fiesta boasts of a fuel efficiency-boosting aerodynamic design while keeping noise and vibrations low. Exterior features include wraparound headlamps, chrome trims, and a sporty grille.
"Like the outside, boldly shaped surfaces express the individuality and distinctiveness of Fiesta inside," Ford said in a statement. "Flowing surfaces and contrasting colours wrap around the cabin that is both warm and inviting. While the expressive interior is designed primarily for younger customers, traditional buyers will also be pleasantly surprised at the packaging which conveys both sophistication and luxury without sacrificing form and function."
Ford's "fun-to-drive small car" was cited as Car of the Year by Auto Express, What Car? and Sun Motors. It has also bagged editorial awards from Top Gear (UK), Car, Car & Driver, and 4 Wheels.
