Honda Cars Philippines launches 4th-gen CR-V

Honda CR-V

Bet you didn't see this one coming. A few weeks ago, we asked people on our Facebook page to guess what our cover for our upcoming May issue is (actually, we have two covers and the all-new Honda CR-V is one of them). Not one person mentioned the fourth-generation CR-V, and we didn't bother enlightening everyone as we had agreed to Honda's embargo at the time.

Today, however, we can officially announce it: Honda Cars Philippines has formally launched the 2012 CR-V. For the full story on the car, get our May issue. But here are 10 basic facts that you need to know about the latest iteration of Honda's popular compact SUV:

* There are two variants: the 2.4-liter EX (185hp, 220Nm) and the 2.0-liter LX (153hp, 190Nm), both equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission.

* The 2.4 EX is 4WD while the 2.0 LX is 2WD.

* The new CR-V, just like its sibling Civic, comes with the fuel-saving Econ button. (See photo below.)

* The new CR-V is basically the same size as the outgoing model, except it's one inch lower.

* The suspension setup: MacPherson struts in front and double wishbones at the back.

* Both variants are shod with 17-inch alloy wheels and 225/65 tires.

* The higher-end EX has a power sunroof, vehicle stability assist and hill-start assist, among many others.

* Both variants have dual front airbags, ABS and electronic brake-force distribution. They also both have fabric seat material.

* Our favorite feature is the one-touch folding of the rear seat. (See our video below, taken during our cover shoot a few weeks back.)

* The price? The 2.4 EX is P1.655 million and the 2.0 LX is P1.425 million.

Feel free to post your thoughts on the all-new Honda CR-V on the comment box below.

  • mark14 Apr 23 2012 @ 01:12pm
The CX-5's pricing has suddenly become reasonable.
    • John Rigor Apr 23 2012 @ 01:27pm
Add to that, the CX-5 has the 163hp, SKYACTIV engine paired to 6 speed auto/manual transmission.
    • triple4 Apr 23 2012 @ 03:18pm
      Good point :)
    • sugeina Apr 23 2012 @ 03:54pm
my thoughts exactly when i saw the pricing. it's still a honda though, so it would have a higher resale price the cx5?
      • Troytin Apr 23 2012 @ 06:39pm
Precisely, mazda has low resale value.
    • JuanC Apr 23 2012 @ 08:54pm
now that Honda crv is out, i find the Mazda cx5 is more attractive
  • freistil16 Apr 23 2012 @ 01:13pm
the 2wd variant is expensive pala haha
    • car_mac Apr 23 2012 @ 08:57pm
  • Aloha Milkyway Apr 23 2012 @ 01:16pm
The price is just in the ballpark for compact SUV's. That screen sure is tasty. At least they no longer scrimp on equipment
  • toyotadude Apr 23 2012 @ 01:16pm
Priced like gold! Maybe it's worth paying for
  • Aloha Milkyway Apr 23 2012 @ 01:25pm
    PS,
I can play with those seats all day
  • aeronTGco Apr 23 2012 @ 01:41pm

Parang Sportage yung harap. Panorama sunroof ba siya or half lang?
  • Leopaul Apr 23 2012 @ 02:51pm
Everything's right about the specs, except for the 2.0L variant, which supposed to have CVT! Why does this 2.0L variant doesn't have CVT?
  • 16c galibier Apr 23 2012 @ 03:08pm
The price seems reasonable and it has an econ button like the civic and some of the new features are quite nice.
  • ryanjoseph24 Apr 23 2012 @ 03:10pm
    • Kyoichi Sudo Apr 24 2012 @ 11:28am

  • stelvio Apr 23 2012 @ 03:10pm
No leather seats for the 2.4? thats one glaring omission
  • triple4 Apr 23 2012 @ 03:20pm
What the about the right passenger seat, is it also one touch folding?
    • snoid_zero Apr 23 2012 @ 04:10pm
all 2nd row seats are one touch folding.

maybe imported from US...they have the same variant EX and LX
  • BOOGIECAT Apr 23 2012 @ 03:34pm
Mas okay pa ang Mazda CX-5..Then again magiging mabenta ang 2 Liter LX 2WD variant nyan for sure!
  • isaac3654 Apr 23 2012 @ 03:50pm
HIDs ba ung 2.4?? Kanina while we were at Honda Alabang, we saw a fresh shipment of these CR-Vs. and so I though the back was fatter, but its the same size, but more dynamic! We've been waiting for this CR-V to come and its finally here na, earlier than expected!
    • Kyoichi Sudo Apr 24 2012 @ 11:29am
bkt d ko nakita yan! dumaan din kmi kahapon sa Honda Alabang eh hahahaha..... what time mo ba nakita Sir?
      • isaac3654 Apr 24 2012 @ 03:13pm
nasa honda kami noong mga 9:00, tpos edi nakita ko habang nagtatanong sa accessories section, there in a small window, i saw a truck arrive carrying what I though were the 3rd gen cr-vs, ksi medio kamukha ung rims nila, tpos pag analyze ko pa lalo, I was like "OHHSHIT those are the new CR-Vs" gawa nng makita ko ung silhouette nng grille =)))
  • isaac3654 Apr 23 2012 @ 04:07pm
    (Your thoughts on the article...)
  • isaac3654 Apr 23 2012 @ 04:09pm
One question, sa US at JAPAN, standard on all specs ang 3-mode back up camera (Wide angle 180 deg, Nornal, and 90 deg facing downward) kung wala, then hello AVT to us!
  • jbits Apr 23 2012 @ 04:19pm
  • BOOGIECAT Apr 23 2012 @ 04:20pm
Galing Japan to kaya ganyan ang presyo..Expect the Thailand-sourced 2012 CRV eh mas mura at mas maganda ang specs.
    • car_mac Apr 23 2012 @ 04:26pm
oo nga eh, yung sa japan kasi i think same na sila ng specs dun sa US, pero kung thai-made na baka mag muka ng pang asian yung crv na nabawasan ng mga features
      • BOOGIECAT Apr 23 2012 @ 04:35pm
  • jabroni Apr 23 2012 @ 04:21pm
local SUV market has never been this great and full!
  • car_mac Apr 23 2012 @ 04:25pm
The price seems reasonable because of the sunroof, which is uncommon among other competitors here in the Philippines, it has three angles for the rear back-up camera, econ button (it really saves fuel though), imported probably from Japan or US, and improved horsepower. So FOR ME it is still well priced despite the other competitors like Mazda CX-9 offers almost the same price yet reduced horsepower. Money will be well spent because of resale value and quality performance.
    • isaac3654 Apr 23 2012 @ 07:36pm
Talaga! Pati dito sa Pinas? Onga sa US at Japan meron! 185hp is more than enough. Enough to get this CR-V from 0-100 in 9 seconds, which, for many, is fast enough, as this is no sportscar or luxury SUV. It is still that CR-V that is excellent to live with. Regarding interior quality, I don't usually judge interior quality of vehicles unless ma-analyze ko cia in person. Mamaya ksi, it looks good, pero upon closer inspection, you may find somewhere in the interior where cost cutting measures were placed upon. Parang ang BMW X1. I was disappointed finding out that when I explored the interior, it had hard plastics rather than soft-touch, which is bad, because this is a BMW.
      • car_mac Apr 23 2012 @ 08:55pm
yup, my mistake inde pala CX-9,, CX-5 pala hehe
      • isaac3654 Apr 24 2012 @ 03:17pm
oonga eh!
  • mindkinetic Apr 23 2012 @ 05:32pm
as expected . mahal na talaga lahat ng 2012 models. din na mapigilan ang pagtaas ng presyo . well this is also good as resale value for outdated model can catch up pretty well .
  • lsdgenie Apr 23 2012 @ 05:52pm
I hope they'll drop the price on the old model, as they get rid of stocks (although I really dont have any interest in getting the old model)
  • GTi Apr 23 2012 @ 06:07pm
Is this one's also CBU Japan? Ang mahal! 1.6M used to be for V6 variants already!
  • JMP617 Apr 23 2012 @ 06:27pm
Most probably from Japan since the U.S. Version doesn't come with those headlights...
  • troybentz Apr 23 2012 @ 06:53pm
I would not say its *gly but it does not look better either. The previous version looked so much better!
  • isaac3654 Apr 23 2012 @ 07:12pm
Actually, kung mapapansin nio, mas mahal pa ang now tragically ignored Toyota Rav-4. Both are 2.4 VVT-i, but the P1.5M variant is FWD, tpos ung P1.9M, AWD with locking differentials and power seats, but lets face it, a sunroof is better than power seats, and also, lets face it, not everyone does ACTUALLY take their crossovers off-road!
    • dextermorgan Apr 25 2012 @ 08:43pm
      Post your reply...
    • dextermorgan Apr 25 2012 @ 08:44pm
  • lord_cykb24 Apr 23 2012 @ 08:01pm
bibili na lang ako ng Monty...!!!!! masyadow mahal ang CRV tapos Gas pa, kung Hyundai naman well, i have to think million times bago ako bibili ng Tucson or Sta. Fe, not worth din kasi masyado pa mahal for a diesel SUV. Mag-MS na lang ako GTV...!!!!
    • Kyoichi Sudo Apr 23 2012 @ 11:44pm
      hahahaha Mitsufan ka nga......
  • ying Apr 23 2012 @ 08:24pm
  • tgstig Apr 23 2012 @ 08:32pm
Japan made lang po to, hindi to JDM, baka may mag sabi nanaman ng JDM eh. Just sayin...
  • JuanC Apr 23 2012 @ 08:51pm
to all TopGear reader.. please dont reply to HyundaiBest. you are just being fooled by that person and he just want an attention from all of you, he is not worth agruing about nor wasting your time on. please ignore him as much as possible..

PS: he alreadr created a new account to contirnue his Troll Legacy...
  • fortis Apr 23 2012 @ 09:17pm
    I love the new CRV
  • patrick_j Apr 23 2012 @ 09:26pm
too bad, no manual variant. the econo mode would've gone well with a manual transmission
    • dextermorgan Apr 25 2012 @ 08:45pm
  • patrick_j Apr 23 2012 @ 09:36pm
too bad, no manual variant. the econo mode would've gone well with a manual transmission
  • jim82592 Apr 23 2012 @ 09:38pm
I like the one-touch folding rear seats! :D
  • carwiki9988 Apr 23 2012 @ 09:45pm
So, kailan dadating yung 2012 CR-V sa mga casa ng Honda or nandoon na?
    • tgstig Apr 23 2012 @ 10:02pm
bukas meron na... actually nasa showrooms na kanina e.
    • gogogo Apr 23 2012 @ 10:19pm
yep meron na sila bukas sa showrooms. :)
    • jayzeter19 Apr 24 2012 @ 12:04pm
honda kal just have a new shipment of new CR-V's today
  • markdejesus76 Apr 23 2012 @ 09:54pm
Will they sell the old generation CR-V at a lower price? Sana. haha
    • tgstig Apr 23 2012 @ 10:06pm
ubos na yata ang old gen CR-V, di rin nila diniscountan ng malaki kasi gusto kumita ng mga dealer dahil konti lang na ibenta nila for the past few months dahil sa thai floods.
  • GBfive Apr 23 2012 @ 09:55pm
RD-4 is still the best looking CR-V.
  • jabroni Apr 23 2012 @ 10:54pm
Only dual front airbags? May side curtain ba un premium?
  • credit_derivative Apr 23 2012 @ 10:55pm
no offense but it looks awful to me..
  • BOOGIECAT Apr 23 2012 @ 11:17pm
Nakita ko na to kanina at okay naman sya..Abangan nyo nalang yung Thai-spec na new CRV na mas mura!
  • Kyoichi Sudo Apr 23 2012 @ 11:50pm
C'mon guys, look at the bright side, this is an improved version of the CR-V.

For me, ok lang ang pricing nya but I think they should have better-priced and named variants. For a pricetag of P1.425M they should have named it "2.0 EX" then they should have 2 budget variants w/c should be the 2.0 LX matic that should be priced P1.378M and 2.0 LX manual at P1.290M, I think this should be the proper line-up for the CR-V.

But in the end, the all-new CR-V is still that great, it just didn't have the right variants.
  • GTi Apr 24 2012 @ 12:08am
    Walang base manual version?
    • gasoline_boy Apr 24 2012 @ 09:55am
dying breed na ata bro ang manual.. sad to think about it kasi Im a manual purist by heart..
      • carwiki9988 Apr 24 2012 @ 11:16am
I agree. Uso na kasi ngayon yung automatic. Pero the disadvantage is di ka na rin matututo sa manual.
    • barry Apr 24 2012 @ 03:30pm
mas ok pag manual. lalo na pag nag mamaneho ka on crosswinds...hehe. pero im not excited kasi lahat automatic...
  • agutz1010 Apr 24 2012 @ 12:08am
    Japan import!
  • jazz113 Apr 24 2012 @ 12:38am
For years, the Honda CR-V has always been the class leader. It may not be the least expensive in its class, but its reputation will surely win shoppers over.
    • jayzeter19 Apr 24 2012 @ 12:05pm
still have doubts though, w/ the strong competitors like CX-5,XV, & Sportage..
  • aeronTGco Apr 24 2012 @ 12:40am
In Japan, the new CR-V has paddle shifters. Check it out here: http://www.honda.co.jp/CR-V/webcatalog/interior/cabin/ Will we have it too?
  • jamzv Apr 24 2012 @ 07:23am
A bit pricey. Not so many features for the price. Maganda CRV but I feel not so many improvements from the previous model, same engine as well. So many options na in the crossover market which is good.
    • borikyo Apr 24 2012 @ 03:03pm
brad, may ECON button, to save gas and to protect the environment..tumataas talaga ang presyo kapag all-new
      • jamzv Apr 24 2012 @ 11:32pm
Point taken but econ button just makes the car unresponsive. I like Honda cars and have owned 4of them but not sold on this. Mukhang avanza ang rear. You say di kailangan ng side and curtain airbags e pag binangga ka from the side is your drivers side airbag going to protect you?
        • borikyo Apr 25 2012 @ 11:30am
jan na papasok ang tibay ng kaha ng honda...for whatever happens, accident is an accident, being cautious and smart driver will lessen the chances of getting into an accident.
  • aeronTGco Apr 24 2012 @ 11:18am
The price of the 4th-gen CR-V is priced at P1.425 million or P1,452,000? I have seen in other websites(not to mention the address) that the new CR-V is priced at P1.452 million. :)
  • carwiki9988 Apr 24 2012 @ 11:19am
    • dextermorgan Apr 25 2012 @ 08:50pm
hanapin mo may nka special pricelist parasa crv na bago
  • Kyoichi Sudo Apr 24 2012 @ 02:42pm
To be honest, may tama sa akin 'tong bagong CR-V.
    • dextermorgan Apr 25 2012 @ 08:49pm
      love at first sight:))
  • BOOGIECAT Apr 24 2012 @ 02:52pm
  • borikyo Apr 24 2012 @ 03:13pm
dual airbags is enough already, you don't really need side curtain, or any airbags aside from dual front...unless ibabanga, pagugulungin mo yung cr-v, hindi naman diba?....syempre,accident...syempre mag-iingat ka pa rin kasi perang inipon mo yung ipinang-bayad mo or hindi mo pa tapos hulugan ang masasayang...matakot tayong lahat kung walang seatbelt,
  • barry Apr 24 2012 @ 03:27pm
expensive! similar to that of the 2nd gen CRV platform.
    • BOOGIECAT Apr 24 2012 @ 03:34pm
Galing Japan kaya ganyan ang presyo!
      • dextermorgan Apr 25 2012 @ 08:48pm
    • fortis May 06 2012 @ 05:28am
The CR-V and Santa Fe doesn't belong to the same class of SUVs. What is with the the Santa Fe? Why is everyone going nuts about it? How can a car like the Santa Fe with no motorsports pedigree or background can challenge the likes of a Honda? Come on! Engine alone not a single Hyundai model can match the power, reliability and fun that a Honda engine delivers.
  • maranello_5775 Apr 24 2012 @ 09:46pm
unlike the fb civic this one looks better than the previous model

      econ button kasi sagot diyan:)
  • spherion03 Apr 25 2012 @ 04:04am
Better get Subaru XV, Kia Sportage or Mazda CX-5. This is too expensive.
    • dextermorgan Apr 25 2012 @ 08:54pm
      cx5=p~
    • car_mac Apr 28 2012 @ 02:45pm
do they have sunroofs and cruise control, do they have econ buttons ??
  • innov8 Apr 25 2012 @ 09:43am
na test drive ko the 2.4 CRV yest after my CX5 test drive in alabang ;)
Japan made sya but Phils specs, so not a JDM nor USDM, asa pa tyo.
No iMID for 2.0 variant, no leather seat for 2.4 to accommodate the sun roof.
Passenger comfort, suspension wise is much better than gen3.
No more foot break, salamat nman.
Looks so much smaller in actual IMO.
NOW THE DEAL BREAKER - THE VOLVOesque REAR.
skin lang nman ito- I can't stand it esp the rear quarter view.
when i first saw the side profile in pics, sabi ko muka na syang WAGON
instead of suv/cuv... PEACE, just my opinion...what u think of the rear?
    BTW i have a '08 2.0 Gen3.
  • jonjericsamson Apr 25 2012 @ 04:28pm
Hyundai Santa Fe in Front and Volvo XC60 at the back! :D
  • jonjericsamson Apr 25 2012 @ 04:31pm
Or more like Honda Crossover in the front. :D
  • jetski Apr 26 2012 @ 07:43pm
nice vs. CX-5.. although the latter is better looking and has skayactiv technology... but overpriced.. it looks small also..
  • carwiki9988 Apr 27 2012 @ 09:29am
Meron pa silang isang variant na P 1,675,000 which is color white lang.
  • supersaiyan99 Apr 27 2012 @ 12:28pm
Cx 5 = Skyactive 35m / L city driving panalo sa Consumption with the right price
  • supersaiyan99 Apr 27 2012 @ 12:29pm
Haha d volvo likod Avanza na bago :D check nyo maigi uy
  • car_mac Apr 28 2012 @ 02:33pm
the 2.4L is priced reasonably for me because of its cruise control, handsfree telephone, projector headlamps, sunroof, and LED side mirror mounted lights. i will still pick this one rather than the montero which has a more firmer ride ..
