Honda posts record City sales in 2009

Honda Cars Philippines ended 2009 with a record as the City overshadowed its annual sales mark by selling 8,882 units last year.

The third-generation Honda City beat its previous annual sales record by 3,404 units on its first year in the market. The model's previous record was 5,487 units sold in 1997, a year after the first-generation City was launched in the Philippines.

"We are more than delighted with the news that the latest City has created new sales record on its first anniversary. We are very grateful for the market's unrelenting patronage that makes such achievement possible," said Honda Philippines president and general manager Hiroshi Shimizu.

To celebrate the third-generation City's success, Honda Philippines has introduced a new color to the subcompact sedan's line-up: Taffeta White.

The Taffeta White Honda City comes only in the top-of-the-line 1.5 liter E variant that sells for P816,000.

"Driven to constantly provide new values in our products and services, we hope that the addition of Taffeta White in City's color selection will further stir up the interest of the discerning market," Shimizu said.

The third-generation Honda City also comes in 1.3-liter manual and automatic transmission variants in body colors like Polished Metal, Crystal Black, Habanero Red, Bold Beige and Alabaster Silver.

• jhaydee says the city sales probably is high one factor is probably because the car is readily available in the plant or case unlike the jazz w/c is CBU thailand. U have to wait for a good 2 and half to 3 months to get ur unit. IMO.. for almost the same money and engine, i pick the jazz 1.3 for its functionality, handling, small yet spacious and lighter.. • Apolonio Julio Leonor says The problem with Toyota is that there is no exclusivity attached to their cars, especially the yaris, vios, altis, innova and etc.. in short, masyadong maraming ganitong klaseng toyota sa daan, and its not a bad thing, 'coz Toyotas is named for their reliability and affordability, on the other hand, Honda is more like the "exclusive one", Yes, they are number #1 in engineering techies and stuff, but think about this, My auntie owns a 2000 Honda CR-V 4WD that has 75,000++ mileage count, the last time that her CR-V repaired , She spent 26,000++ pesos for the replacement of steering belt and minor stuffs and all. and to think it is the first time that she didn't put her baby to the casa(SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE WILL BE SPENDING ABOUT 50,000 PESOS abouts by doing the same thing on a CASA). in short, Hondas are more likely too expensive to run and too expensive to own.Comparing this to our 1993 Toyota Liteace(dito na ako lumaki) that has 183,100++km(and still counting...) mileage, although i can see the van is beaten through out the years, with some Tune ups and minor repairs(mostly brakes, bushings, clutch) that cost less than 15,000 pesos once every 2 years, i can say that Toyota is the more likely the best thing to own!!! :) keep it up TOYOTA!! • Civic says I love both Toyota and Honda (but my car has the "3 diamonds" logo), mas feel ko ang pagiging solid ng Honda. Panel gaps that are consistent, Doors shut satisfyingly, My Uncle owns a 2004 CR-V and I love shutting it's doors (this sounds st*p*d) because they shut nicely unlike the others that "CLUNK" instead of "THUD". And of course, i love the i-VTEC engine technology. Except for the 1.3 i-VTEC of the Jazz and the City which is underpowered and has a delayed throttle response. Ang ayoko lang eh, mapapabili ka ng sandamakmak na air-fresheners dahil bumabaho ang aircon. Na-encounter namin ang problem na ito sa '01 ES Civic VTi-S, '04 CR-V 2.0, '07 FD Civic 2.0S-L at '07 CRV 2.4S-X. (14 January 2010)

• Frank says I used to own a Yaris, which i consider to be my first car (brand new, that is). Okay naman, only downside is medyo matagtag ang ride. Going uphill sa antipolo, walang problema kahit overtake pa ng tatlo. Definitely a great car, but I don't have it anymore thanks to Ondoy. Anyway, got the money from the insurance company recently, and i'm now getting a city 1.5E. Ewan ko lang bat ang sama ng reaction sa honda ng ibang posters, pero mukhang okay naman specs ng City. Plus with the paddleshifter, it should be fun to drive. Magsedan na ko dahil ayaw ko na ng matagtag (based on my own experience with yaris). I would not consider getting the vios tho, eh yaris din kasi yung harap. Di bagay sa vios, pero maganda talaga tingnan sa yaris (kotse-koo tawag ko sa yaris ko, ang cute naman kasi). Nauwi tuloy sa next obvious choice, which is the city. (20 January 2010)
