As you know, Hyundai, together with Chevrolet and Volvo, is no longer participating in the upcoming Manila International Auto Show. Instead, the three brands--whose Philippine distributors are owned by businessman Richard Lee--are staging the AVID Innovation Congress on the same weekend as the annual motor show. AVID stands for Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, an upstart industry group that is widely regarded as a rival to the long-established Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines.
The Innovation Congress, according to AVID, is basically its third Thought Leadership Forum and is in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology. It is slated for April 5, from 9am to 12nn, to be held at a specially constructed tent on the corner of 32nd Avenue and 9th Street in Bonifacio Global City.
To spice things up at the forum, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. is flying in the Korean carmaker's creative design head, Casey Hyun, to speak on smart mobility and also to interact with industrial design students. Hyun, according to HARI, is "credited with leading the team that developed, refined and implemented the Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy, the concept that gave Hyundai an identity that sets it apart even at a glance."
Incidentally, Hyun spent part of his childhood in Manila, having lived here for two years in the '80s.
"Manila is the place where I started my love for cars," says Hyun, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, and studied Industrial Design at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. He also took up a post-graduate course in Automotive Design at the University of Coventry in the UK.
"Innovation is the realization of your most creative dream and the execution of your mind's imagination," Hyun explains. "Human imagination is limitless, and innovation is the reality of a dream. I truly believe history-changing innovations and ideas are with us all the time. It's just a matter of who thinks of them hard enough and takes that vital first step to make them real."
If you wish to listen to Hyun's lecture on smart mobility, you may contact the AVID secretariat at (02) 519-1015 or (0932) 852-4731. You may also e-mail the group at firstname.lastname@example.org.
