There’s no denying the relevance of the Bangkok International Motor Show to our market. Name a best-selling vehicle model here and it’s practically guaranteed to be made in Thailand. Toyota Vios? Mitsubishi Montero Sport? Honda City? Ford Ranger? These are all Thai-made.
So it’s safe to say that the Bangkok Motor Show is both a sneak preview and a showcase of our own automotive industry--but on a much larger scale. We certainly hope that our homegrown motor shows will be this big a few years down the road.
This year seems to be a special one for the luxury segment, especially the crossover coupe segment. Both BMW and Mercedes-Benz displayed their X6 and GLE, respectively, and we’re anticipating how they will go head-to-head once they’re officially launched in the Philippines. The ultra-premium segment is also something expected to grow in our market, so be ready to see Aston Martins and Rolls-Royces on the streets of Bonifacio Global City.
There are also very promising MPVs on display at the show. The Toyota Vellfire, the Alphard’s more aggressive twin, is a minivan we hope to see on our roads. And more so the Mitsubishi Delica, more popularly known here as the Space Gear.
Well, here’s a look at the automotive industry in our ASEAN region. If you’re visiting Bangkok from now until April 5, drop by the massive Impact Muang Thong Thani complex, and go inside Challenger Halls 1 to 3. It’s car-nut heaven, believe us.
