Mahindra Enforcer PNP vehicle

As we've already reported, Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer Mahindra has secured the supplier contract for the Philippine National Police's patrol fleet. Today, CAC Mahindra--the official name of the carmaker's local distributor--showed off the new PNP vehicle, which is based on the Mahindra Bolero SUV (to be called Enforcer in our market).

CAC stands for Columbian Autocar Corporation--CAC Mahindra being an affiliate of the Philippine distributors of BMW, Kia and Peugeot.

The company presented the vehicle before the League of Municipalities of the Philippines at the Manila Hotel. According to company officials, the Enforcer patrol vehicles will be turned over to the PNP beginning next month. A total of 1,470 units costing P1.3 billion are set to be delivered to police force from May to September this year. The turnover of these vehicles will be done in five batches, with priority municipalities to get their units first.

"The government actually had savings with the P1.3 billion," CAC Mahindra president Felix Mabilog Jr. said. "People don't have to worry about the after-sales service. We have facilities in place through Kia dealerships. We've been bringing in technical experts to train our mechanics."

CAC Mahindra provided several units of the Enforcer for test drive today. The units were imported from India almost bare, with the seats in the vehicle's bed portion installed here.

A civilian version of the Enforcer will also be offered to the public, with specs and pricing that are "slightly higher" than the PNP units, according to Mabilog.

CAC Mahindra has not officially released the engine specs for the PNP or Philippine-market Enforcer, but the Bolero in India is powered by a 2.5-liter diesel engine rated at 62hp and 195Nm.

UPDATE: We just got word that the Philippine-spec Mahindra Enforcer is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine rated at 100hp and 240Nm.
