Jaguar has revealed that it is already working on a compact executive sedan that will go up against the Audi A4, the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class in 2015.
According to the British carmaker, the sedan will be built at the new facility Jaguar is currently constructing within the Land Rover factory in Solihull in the United Kingdom. The car's four-cylinder engine will also be all-new and built at a plant Jaguar is also constructing at Wolverhampton, also in the UK. Lastly. the car will be the first production model to make use of Jaguar's new iQ Al aluminum architecture.
"The competitors are cost-driven," said Jaguar global product marketing director Steven de Ploey. "Our new sedan will be more progressive, more accessible and more relevant to buyers."
De Ploey also added that Jaguar's compact sedan "will be the most efficient car of its type in the world and will expand the appeal of Jaguar to a new audience."
"We think 90% of customers will be new to Jaguar," de Ploey shared. "They will be younger and more cosmopolitan, and include a higher percentage of women and business users."
Do you think Jaguar can finally make an impact in the compact executive sedan segment after its previous entry, the X-Type, proved to be unpopular despite its eight-year production run?
