Mitsubishi lancer

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has announced that it will be conducting a safety inspection campaign due to possible defects in the airbag inflators of some of its vehicles. The move comes less than a month after Honda Cars Philippines recalled some of its units due to a similar issue.

The possibly affected models are the Lancer Evolution IX (2009 to 2010), the Lancer (2006 to 2009) and the Fuzion (2005 to 2008). Owners of said models are advised to get in touch with their Mitsubishi dealership to schedule the servicing of their unit. The inspection or replacement procedure is free of charge and is expected to take up to two hours.

The company says that there will be a vehicle identification number verification procedure for potentially affected units, the results of which will be posted on the MMPC website. They also add that the move is a "proactive one" meant to assure customers of their vehicle's safety.

While there are no reports related to the failure of airbags in Mitsubishi vehicles to date, you should definitely bring in your vehicle for inspection if the model is included in the above list. When it comes to motoring, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
