According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, regardless of race or ethnicity. In 2008 alone, the disease caused nearly 500,000 deaths worldwide. While survival rates in the Western world are high, survival rates in developing countries such as the Philippines are much lower.
The scary death toll number and low survival rate in the Philippines may be sad news for you, but the good news is that advocates are joining hands to help fight the big C. One such partnership is between Ford Philippines and Avon Philippines. For the second consecutive year, Ford joins the beauty-and-personal-care company to raise breast cancer awareness through its "Do Something Beautiful Against Breast Cancer" campaign. An exclusive pink-stickered Ford Fiesta hatchback will serve as the official lead vehicle for Avon's annual walk-and-run event on October 13.
"We are very proud to partner with our friends from Avon for a second year on this worthy cause," said Ford Philippines managing director Kay Hart. "The new Fiesta is the perfect vehicle to represent Avon's campaign. Together, we will show how even the smallest acts can deliver the biggest results as we lead thousands of people for the walk against breast cancer."
You can check out the pink Fiesta at Avon's culminating event on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia open grounds. Better yet, join the walk-and-run awareness campaign.
