Four Japanese carmakers--Toyota, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Honda--brought members of the Top Gear Philippines staff to Japan last week for the two press days of the ongoing 43rd Tokyo Motor Show, whose theme is "Compete! And shape a new future." The regular public run is from November 23 to December 1, in case you're in Tokyo during this period.
For the third straight year, the Americans are absent--perhaps a clear indication of their marketing strategy shift to China. Oh...wait..there is actually one American auto company at the show, Tesla Motors.
But whatever. The main stars of the biennial motor show are--without a doubt--the Japanese. They have the best, most thought-provoking, most stylish and certainly most newsworthy cars in this expo. That is not to say, however, that the Europeans didn't bring their A-game. It's simply that it's always difficult to beat rivals at their home turf.
Check out our photos of the best automobiles at the show--mostly Japanese (including creations by car designer Ken Okuyama) and several Euro rides. Then tell us which cars intrigue you the most visually.
