During the 2016 Honda Motorcycle Convention for Luzon held at the Metrotent in Pasig City yesterday, motorbike enthusiasts couldn’t help drool over the exciting modified two-wheelers all sporting the Honda badge.
More than 200 entries—from scooters and underbones to big bikes—underwent the scrutiny of judges, all vying for the Best in Show award. The motorbikes were lined up in columns around the spectators’ area, where they were either adored or ignored by a big throng of riders, depending on their design.
Some carried sleek styling, while others bordered on ridiculous designs. A number of Click scooters looked like futuristic warriors with their cowls painted with Transformers images. Meanwhile, classic Super Fours (CB 400) and CB1000 naked bikes also had their own story to tell. There were also scooters that sported the Repsol Honda racing bike decals of MotoGP champion Marc Marquez.
To level the playing field, none of the entries were allowed to put up their own booth, be placed on a platform, install their own lighting, or set up any other props that would give them an advantage over their rivals in terms of presentation.
Despite intermittent rains, Honda motorcycle owners filled the 2,000-capacity giant tent for tons of free food, drinks and corporate giveaways.
They were welcomed by executives of Honda Philippines Incorporated as delegates to the annual motorbike gathering. The guests were also treated to non-stop live band concerts, including Parokya ni Edgar, for almost nine hours. Included in the sideshows were motorcycle stunts, tire burnouts and wheelies.
An eventful day was capped off with everyone’s favorite activity—a raffle. Motorcycle dealer Wheeltek gave away a brand-new, special Repsol edition Honda RS150 inspired by the racing bike of Marc Marquez.
We’re definitely attending again next year.
