The Mitsubishi Mirage is coming--that much we know after our trip to Bangkok to test-drive the Japanese carmaker's entry in the Philippines' burgeoning microcar market. We also know that it'll only come with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine that produces 77hp and 100Nm of torque.

That, however, may soon change as Mitsubishi is reportedly keen on making a hotter version of its mini hatchback.

Citing Japanese car magazine Best Car, LeBlogAuto.com claims that the Mirage Evolution will likely get a 1.5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine that’ll put out around 150hp, nearly twice as powerful as the stock 1.2-liter mill of the standard Mirage.

While 150hp may not sound enough in today's horsepower-hungry market, Mitsubishi plans to make up for that by lightening the vehicle to make it weigh less than 900kg.

Mitsubishi reportedly hopes to have the Mirage Evolution go on sale by middle of 2013.

    Good if mirage would be turbo charged but should be priced 800k below to compete well in the micro segment or even in sub-compact, otherwise, buyers will opt to buy for a sub-compact hatch or sedan for practicality. Mitsu must first try the non turbo and bring the turbocharged as an option. At 150hp of mirage, the sprint to 100kph might be below 8 seconds which is considered fast even for a 2.0 sedan. It is like a mini at sub 800k price.

    4 cylinder na naman siguro yung turbocharged 1.5 engine, sana eh nagka typo error lang si Mr. Tadeo, pero kung totoo eh matipid sa fuel yan!

    @Feeter Silverster: Kita mo yung kulay blue sa LeBlogAuto.com? Click mo yon at basahin mo yung nakasulat muna bago ka magsalita ng kung ano-ano. Problema sa mga tao dito ginagamit muna yung bunganga bago yung utak.

    it took long time for the Mitsu to produce their competing product on the microcar market.. this will be very interesting for those Mitsu loyalist to inspect and test drive this Mirage... Go for it Mitsubishi!!!! GO!!!

        Jet-like LandShark styling like the LanEvo and some 6-speed Auto/CVT Sportronic Transmission. Dual Clutch Tranny is impossible.
