Launched: All-new Honda Civic

The Launch Pad

2012 Honda Civic

In the Philippine market, few cars are greeted with more anticipation than an all-new Honda Civic. The Civic occupies that special realm where affordability and excitement meet. It's a family sedan that doesn't emasculate the driver into a kind of domestic submission. That's why car enthusiasts and regular motorists alike always look forward to the introduction of each generation.

Today, after months of anticipation, the all-new Civic is finally introduced to the local market. We already had a close look and seat time in Honda's new car, and we're happy to tell you that it's certainly worth the wait.

The one we drove was the 1.8-liter EXI variant. At first glance of the front profile, you will be forgiven for wondering if you're looking at an all-new car or an extensive redesign. The bumper, grille and headlights have the same angular profile as the outgoing FD-series Civic. But let your eyes linger a bit and you'll see a more wedge-like look, the headlights sweep back more.

If you still have doubts upon seeing the face, the rear will convince you that this is all-new metal. The new taillights are an obvious departure from the usual simplicity of Civic design. The white reflectors extend into the trunk like the Accord's. The 16-inch alloy wheels are new to the Civic, but they look similar to what the City wears.

Whereas the exterior changes might be described as conservative, the cabin is something else. Right in front of the driver, the digital speedometer from the FD is still there, but this time there are rows of lights on either side that either glow blue or green (more on this in a bit). Beside the digital speedo is a five-inch screen that displays a variety of information: trip meter, door-ajar indicator, clock, outside temperature and the display for the rear back-up camera. And this rear camera comes installed from the factory, not some add-on to reinvigorate an aging model line. The screen even has a choice of three wallpapers, and if you don't like what's programmed in, you can swap it with one of your own. Amazing.

The dashboard, including the HVAC and entertainment system controls, is angled toward the lucky driver. But he or she doesn't even need to reach that far to change the song or adjust the volume, the leather steering wheel has audio controls, a feature previously found only on the top of the line 2.0-liter variant.

And here's the special treat: on the other side of the steering wheel are cruise control functions, because, yes, the all-new Civic has cruise control. While it isn't the first in its class to have this (the Subaru Impreza brought it in first), it's still a very useful, not to mention upscale, feature to have. But wait there's more: on the bottom left of the steering wheel are dedicated buttons for the hands-free calling function.

The new Civic is chock-full of interesting toys, but there's one very special feature Honda wants to highlight. To the driver's left, just beside the door, is a very visible green button labeled 'ECON.' Once pressed, it will do several things that will affect fuel economy. It will alter the drive-by-wire throttle response to be less responsive (countering those who drive with heavy feet), change the transmission shift timing, and even adjust the air conditioner. When you're driving efficiently, the lights on either side of the digital speedo change from blue to green, the latter color being the undisputed hue for environmental friendliness. Step harder on the gas and it reverts to blue.

Oh, and there's one more thing. Like what Honda Cars Philippines (HCP) said before, this first batch of Honda Civics comes straight from Japan. In other words, these are basically JDM specs you read about, and this isn't even the top-tier 2.0-liter variant. As of the launch today, only this 1.8-liter EXI variant will be offered in the Philippines, and this is the only variant. There is no more 1.8V base model like before. The 2.0-liter version will be available in several months time.

Under the hood is the same 1,798cc, SOHC inline-four from the FD Civic, still mated to a five-speed automatic. As expected, power figures of 139hp and 174Nm of torque are the same. But the HCP people say the coming 2.0-liter will be a new powerplant.

You might be wondering, how long will HCP keep bringing in units from Japan? Will the cool features still be there once the Thai factories are fully operational? It's hard to say but, if you're in the market for a compact sedan at this point, it might be wise to make a reservation for this P1.074-million car. We just have a feeling these units will sell quickly.

    Looks awesome..

Really hoping they'll bring in the 2 Liter variant!
  • JCM Feb 16 2012 @ 02:26pm
It looks a little more conservative now than before. A more sophisticated version of City.
    • AM3 Feb 16 2012 @ 05:54pm
I agree. This is one of the reasons they are rushing a facelift of this in the US. I also read that the interior quality isn't as good, I want to see it for myself.
  • ashek268 Feb 16 2012 @ 02:29pm
    Price is outrageous!
  • strking Feb 16 2012 @ 02:36pm
the back of the car looks like an old camry. nevertheless, the car has a sleek design.
  • old_school_cars Feb 16 2012 @ 02:43pm
    Accord City = Civic

    P1.074M for a 1.8L engine?Lancer EX na lang ako :)
    • Kyoichi Sudo Feb 16 2012 @ 07:11pm
makakabili na ako sa price na P1.074M ng Lancer EX 2.0 GLS. I'll just need to add P46K for the P1,120M paddle-shifting MX variant.
      • tandavid31 11 months ago
sumakay ako sa lancer ex.. nabored ako.. no pun intended. just stating my opinion.
  • lord_cykb24 Feb 16 2012 @ 02:55pm
    Elantra Killer..!!!
( if the price would be the same or almost )
  • joab565 Feb 16 2012 @ 03:02pm
    overpriced a bit.
  • BOOGIECAT Feb 16 2012 @ 03:15pm
May test drive event ang Honda para sa new Honda Civic sa Fort Bonifacio!
  • roadrage Feb 16 2012 @ 03:43pm
1.074php for the 1.8 variant, tama ba? Isnt it a bit overpriced? Well, to be fair lets wait for feedback from those who will be testing the car.
    • BOOGIECAT Feb 16 2012 @ 03:47pm
Its CBU from Japan kaya ganyan ang presyo.Mas mahal pa nga ang Impreza Sedan.
      • ashek268 Feb 16 2012 @ 04:06pm
But not that much overpriced! 16" alloys? C'mon!!
        • BOOGIECAT Feb 16 2012 @ 04:22pm
Overpriced ang Impreza Sedan no doubt it!
          • gogogo Feb 16 2012 @ 08:59pm
agree ako sa overpriced impreza sedan. kahit naman yung hatch ganun din pero marami pa rin bumili. hehehe
            • hajabah Feb 17 2012 @ 10:26pm
To be fair, at least yung Impreza may all wheel drive and a dual range gearbox for the manual hatch. And it has 17-inch wheels and projector HID headlamps for the money as well.
              • Kyoichi Sudo Feb 18 2012 @ 11:37pm
D ba dapat mas mura ang Impreza dahil AWD sya pero d naman naka-turbo, mas ok na ang 16" alloys and 1.8L FWD kesa sa 17" alloys w/ 2.0L AWD non-turbo
  • rollakid690 Feb 16 2012 @ 04:03pm
I still think the outgoing/phased out FD is a much better looking car than this. It looks like a steroid-infused City, and I didn't mean that in a good way. Also, it kinda lost its "young executive" look, that its predecessor had and carried quite well. This just doesn't look as inspiring or bold as it could've been, and its probably the reason why this model, in the States, isn't selling so well.
Moreover, the new gadgets that come stock still aren't enough to justify its price- a couple of thousands away from the outgoing 2.0S' SRP. HCPI might be subsidizing the additional costs related to importing this from Japan, but I think it's not quite enough to make it THAT appealing to potential buyers. However, all the best to Honda!
    • ashek268 Feb 16 2012 @ 09:30pm
rollakid690 are you working for honda?
      • Aloha Milkyway Feb 16 2012 @ 10:32pm
Actually, he drives a Toyota :)
  • 007 Feb 16 2012 @ 04:30pm
NICE! pero mahal! mukhang honda city na malaki
  • wallrift Feb 16 2012 @ 04:42pm
it'll be interesting if that Econ mode has actual benefits in our metro traffic.
  • yokam888 Feb 16 2012 @ 04:48pm
i think its a bargain at 1.074m :) think about it, this car is made in japan, inside a japanese factory, by japanese workers, probably using mostly japanese made parts. the japanese are known to put quality and precision their top priority when manufacturing things, and imho i think honda even is losing money importing these cars from japan and selling them here.

i would rather pay 1m on a pure japanese made car than pay 700k to 900k on a car made by underpaid workers in thailand, indonesia, or worse in india.

these civics will fly off the showrooms easy.
    • Aloha Milkyway Feb 16 2012 @ 05:27pm
Well said sir. You sound like the voice of reason here I say
    • gogogo Feb 16 2012 @ 08:55pm
      agree ako dito. hehehe
    • Machspeed 10 months ago
I just bought an EXI last Friday. It's really much better than the Thai version and most locally available Japanese and Korean compact sedans currently in the market. It has cruise control !!! :)
  • 16c galibier Feb 16 2012 @ 05:17pm
A combination of the accord and the city. And Honda made this generation of the civic a less racing type.
  • torquebender Feb 16 2012 @ 05:20pm
    wow....very awesome!
this will kill the elantra :D
  • Aloha Milkyway Feb 16 2012 @ 05:26pm
After the initial sticker shock, I say the price is just right. Think about it, the Corolla Altis 1.6V which isn't even as well specced as this Civic already costs 970,000 pesos. It has 200cc's less, 17 horsepower less and one less gear (in automatic guise) and a whole lot less. Spec per spec, I think the Civic wins. However, I don't think the Civic shouldn't be too concerned with the Corolla Altis because The Elantra, in a much sexier wrapper, costs 938,000 and is better specced and has more kit than the Corolla Altis. Honda will have to convince people that it's worth the initial sticker shock and help potential buyers see where the money goes
    • BOOGIECAT Feb 16 2012 @ 06:14pm
Elantra's main target are the Corolla Altis buyers..While HCPI is banking on its
Made In Japan" slogan for the new Honda Civic.
      • Aloha Milkyway Feb 16 2012 @ 06:34pm
So Honda is going for upmarket aspirations so to say?
    • Machspeed 10 months ago
Admittedly, Hyundai is better priced than Honda. However, I'm not convinced Hyundai is better built and has a better after-sales service than Honda.
  • Leopaul Feb 16 2012 @ 05:29pm
    I don't wana talk about it... :(
  • LoremIpsum Feb 16 2012 @ 05:39pm
wow! its too bland yech..:P sorry honda ur 5 years lag
  • alxnd21 Feb 16 2012 @ 05:46pm
I think Honda Philippines has a fair price Tag on this car because of being CBU from Japan... But why there is no paddle shifter in this 2012 1.8 variant of Civic? Ang pagkawala ng paddle shifter ang makaka apekto sa sales ng Honda Civic na ang halos sa kalaban niya sa compact sedan ay meron semi- automatic or we call manual transmission driving experience. Thumbs up ako sa major change in exterior at interior area especially the ECO drive button. Pero thumbs down ako sa Walang paddle shifter at Sana ay kaunting price discount to make it Php 1M price.

Anyway Honda is always = quality and reliability
    • GBfive Feb 17 2012 @ 06:43am
      quality, reliability and PRICE.
  • montero2010 Feb 16 2012 @ 05:54pm
tama lang yang price saka gaganda din yan pagkatagalan ganyan nmn sa umpisa and im so exited sa new features (econ cruise and a lot more) saka tama ung iba thats made in japan san kapa
    BANZAI .........
  • Aloha Milkyway Feb 16 2012 @ 05:54pm
PS: I do like the fact that the review was done in Tagalog. Was it done in response to VBS' tagalog car review piece back then?
  • fiat_abarth Feb 16 2012 @ 06:03pm
Honda Motor Co. announced last year that the CIVIC is already phased-out in Japan.
Honda USA announced that they would be redesigning this model due to QUALITY issues and is expected to release the redesigned model Mid-year 2012
    • Aloha Milkyway Feb 16 2012 @ 06:35pm
The US Spec Civics are built in Indiana
    • ReyMatt Feb 16 2012 @ 08:51pm
Part of the reason why the Civic was phased out in Japan was that smaller cars like the Honda Jazz/Fit was more popular than sedans. So the units being sent here are probably unsold cars or oversupply units from Japan.
P 1.074 million for a car that could be replaced in the market within 3 years? One that has had less than glowing ratings compared to the Cruze and Elantra? Much has been said about the quality of work of Honda, but my City has more creaking/tapping noises inside the cabin than my Elantra.
I think the European Civics are nicer to look at...
  • Kyoichi Sudo Feb 16 2012 @ 07:18pm
I love the goodies found in this new Civic, what i hate in this sh*t is the pricetag. Why price this sh*t w/ P1.074M and pull out the best selling 1.8V variant? I'd rather buy a Lancer EX GLS or add P46k for the MX w/ paddle shifters w/c is equipped w/ a 2.0L engine that can be found in the top-spec GT-A.
    • BOOGIECAT Feb 16 2012 @ 11:43pm
1.8 V is not the best selling variant.

Bumebenta lang yang Lancer EX pag may promo.I don't like cars in CVT.
    • ashek268 Feb 17 2012 @ 10:18am
That's right Kyoichi Sudo. The people behind Honda Cars Philippines really believe that this......thing.,,,is worth the shitty price. But an insider tip from honda is that they cannot provide the stocks.
      • Kyoichi Sudo Feb 17 2012 @ 06:02pm
Yeah, and what's more disapointing here is it DOESN'T HAVE PADDLE SHIFTERS!!!
  • sergefilsc Feb 16 2012 @ 07:20pm
Parang nadala ng Tsunami yung design ng Honda.. Malulongkot na talaga yung mga hilig sa Peke-peke Type-R na mga Boy Racer Obese Boys...
    • Feeter Silverster Feb 16 2012 @ 10:16pm
agree ako diyan, pati yung new CR-V natangay ng Tsunami ang beauty
  • japster_13 Feb 16 2012 @ 07:40pm
    looks Accordish from the front
  • windel Feb 16 2012 @ 09:43pm
sana walang 1.8 na sulat sa gilid. pwede na yung i-vtec lang.
  • Feeter Silverster Feb 16 2012 @ 09:50pm
Ok lang ang pricing, Honda is always a sophisticated car that feels like a premium brand. Lucky for those who can buy this one.
  • GotToRead Feb 16 2012 @ 10:20pm
Good job Honda! Sad to say but buyers will surely pick an Elantra over this. :(
  • dsobreo Feb 16 2012 @ 10:38pm
Kapag tinititigan ko sya, muhka naman syang ok. Kaso talagang mas better looking yung previous gen
  • legacy Feb 17 2012 @ 05:29am
Baby Accord! Nice one honda, this will be another best seller. As for the price, i think its just right for a japan made car. Japanese craftsmanship is still one of the best in the world. may elantra naman if you cant afford this new civic. Or wait for a thai assembled version.
    • BOOGIECAT Feb 17 2012 @ 01:06pm
      True!
    • barry Feb 17 2012 @ 03:29pm
oo nga. 1.8 liter at P1M? not the previous gen, you can purchase it at P800K. but this one, i don't know. too sad about it...
  • GBfive Feb 17 2012 @ 07:14am
    next Launch Pad, please.....
  • Carfanatic Feb 17 2012 @ 08:50am
Wow, lagpas na pala sa 1M and presyo nito. It is really an upgrade from the previous generation especially with ECON button. It will be a plus plus buy since this unit is CBU from Japan. Better resale value in the future. Hope there will be more reviews on this civic by TGPH in the future.
  • troybentz Feb 17 2012 @ 08:51am
dont blame honda for the looks they just used honda FANS feed back on the looks. specially feedback from the honda city! which honda fans praised for its looks!
  • zetsumei Feb 17 2012 @ 01:06pm
Waiting list again ! hahaha but just shows how great this car is and most compact cars are already around 900k - 1M , what's another 50-100K when you're getting a JDM spec Honda Civic. Those features enumerated aren't found in your Elantra or Altis or Cruze. For sure by the time I'm finished typing this. Ubos na yang first batch. I'm sure of it.
    • BOOGIECAT Feb 17 2012 @ 01:43pm
I hope so..Magiging mabenta din yan lalo na't made in Japan sya.

The Thai-assembled new Civic will be available sa 3rd or 4th quarter of this year!
  • kyrejohn Feb 17 2012 @ 01:16pm
    one word. UGLY.

but of course I will choose this over Elantra.
    • barry Feb 17 2012 @ 03:26pm
consider the price at P1M? is really worth it?
      • Machspeed 10 months ago
The only Japanese car who can beat the Civic features/quality-wise is the new Subaru Impreza worth P1.298 million.
  • maraf67 Feb 17 2012 @ 02:30pm
I give the new Civic two thumbs up. With the specs given it is value for money, and these cars are known to run the streets longer with good resale value and most importantly they are comfortable and fun to drive. The back design has a more executive look, kinda European and the side profile front and rear facade is more agressive. If you sit inside, they've rid of the blindspot of the front door's frame. Made in Japan too!
  • barry Feb 17 2012 @ 03:24pm
this is too much! only available in automatic transmissions. no manual variant! im hopeless! and the price tag: P1.074M? are they kidding? im sure, people will jump into hyundai elantra if HCPI will not adjust the MSRP. but honestly, i love the previous FD-gen civic. for the FD-owners, love your civic...
  • barry Feb 17 2012 @ 03:36pm
gys, magjazz na lang tayo. hehe
    • Kyoichi Sudo Feb 17 2012 @ 06:04pm
TAMA! dun na lang ako sa special edition Jazz hahahaha........
    • Feeter Silverster Feb 18 2012 @ 09:24pm
Yung friend ko sa PLDT, may car plan sila 1M for a car. Inubos nya yung 1M para sa upgraded Jazz. Pag tinitignan ko napapailing na lang ako dahil 1M na yung maliit na kotse.
  • AKP1973 Feb 17 2012 @ 06:01pm
For just around 800K, you can get the North American Car of the Year, Hyundai Elantra. This is not worth your million pesos. =)
  • 17Sphynx17 Feb 17 2012 @ 07:19pm
    My comments are as follows:

The wheel size doesn't look right at the moment. Hope they eventually upgrade this. (I think a similar situation happened with the Fortuner and Ford Focus where they originally sold it with smaller whells than what they currently have now - small shoes don't look as good but do improve fuel economy especially within city driving)

What is the button for handsfree calling? Is it the button with the exclamation point and 3 windows stacked on top of each other? I can't see it, maybe I'm looking at it wrong though.

Last question is, once it is shipped from Thailand instead of being a JDM, will the price adjust? With a 1m price tag, I would've actually expected more specs in line with safety upgrades like EBD, ABS, Backup Sensors, Multiple Airbags and the like. Perhaps there are those features but they weren't listed in this article yet.

Anyway, I'll just wait for updates pertaining this vehicle near the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2012. I really hope there will be price adjustment as 1m seems a bit too steep for me for a sedan.

    Good luck HCPI! Cheers!
  • enzofroilan Feb 17 2012 @ 08:26pm
a 1.8L engine on a price tag o just over a million pesos.. i'd rather have a lancer EX MX just at around 990,000 pesos..
    • Kyoichi Sudo Feb 20 2012 @ 08:20pm
Dude, the one you're talking about is the Lancer EX GLX but its not bad, i mean it has the same 155hp 2.0L MIVEC engine w/ the top-spec GT-A for just P990K unlike having a 139hp 1.8L i-VTEC for P1.074M. But i still prefer the paddle-shifting MX for P1,120M and the GLS w/ P1,050M, just add P76K for your P1,074M Civic Budget for the MX.
  • John Rigor Feb 17 2012 @ 10:27pm
At first glance, 1 million is a bit overpriced for this car. But with all that gadgets and goodies (sayang lang at walang H.I.D), I'd say the price is okay. Plus, this came from JAPAN.
  • Kim John Feb 18 2012 @ 04:29am
for me it worth the price! daming lama ang layo ng elentra dito.
  • boi_torotot Feb 18 2012 @ 09:02am
its another overrated honda civic m/
  • boi_torotot Feb 18 2012 @ 09:54am
its another over rated honda civic... peace
  • jabroni Feb 18 2012 @ 12:58pm
I think the price is just right, sa mga umaangal sa presyo hndi para sa inyo ito just settle for the mukhang alien at matagtag na elantra.
  • John Rigor Feb 18 2012 @ 01:43pm
Let's just see how the blue oval brand responds to this.
    • ashek268 Feb 18 2012 @ 02:52pm
Blue Oval Brand? Psst........Ford? You mean the Focus? HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
      • kyrejohn Feb 20 2012 @ 02:13pm
        FOCUS > civic
      • walphie Feb 21 2012 @ 02:11pm
I'll definitely take the new Mk. III Focus over this one, if given the choice. Give me TDCi over VTEC any day.
    • jayzeter19 Feb 26 2012 @ 02:33pm
what made you compare this shitty Civic to the new Focus??? lol
  • hhhhmmmm... Feb 18 2012 @ 01:56pm
you will never know the quality of Hyundai-Kia vehicles until you own one. you know, the issues found on the first batch of tucson ix like those disc pads that last only up to about 25000 km, A/C not operating at initial start-up, A/T problem, among others. only POLARIZING looks.

okay lang ang price ng Civic ngayon. the outgoing 1.8S model costs 988K. now, for 1.074M, you get extras like i-MID, bluetooth, manual headlight leveling, factory-installed rear view camera, cruise control, econ, PROJECTOR-type headlights, key-integrated remote trunk release, stability control, iPod connectivity, DOUBLE WISHBONE rear suspension, electric power steering, and it's MADE IN JAPAN.

the drawbacks: no paddle shifters, single in-dash CD, manual A/C, no side airbags.
    • ashek268 Feb 20 2012 @ 10:27am
Hyundai Kia made by shitty people. Dealers run by shitty people. What do you expect?
    • kyrejohn Feb 20 2012 @ 02:08pm
agree! and some hyundai and kia owners are dumb not to accept it. bulok kotse nyo uy! hahaha
    • Kyoichi Sudo Feb 21 2012 @ 08:41pm
      AGREE!!!
  • jim82592 Feb 18 2012 @ 03:39pm
A bit overpriced but let's just wait for the comments of the people who buy this car and give their own feedback.
  • Feeter Silverster Feb 18 2012 @ 09:32pm
Look at the video 1:08 - 1:11 segments, parang anlakas ng usok ng Civic. Is this normal?
    • maranello_5775 Feb 19 2012 @ 03:29am
yes that's normal for petrol cars during cold weather operation
      • walphie Feb 21 2012 @ 02:14pm
Or if a petrol car is coming from a cold start
  • BOOGIECAT Feb 18 2012 @ 10:31pm
Test drove this car today and its really good..

Hoping they'll bring in the 2 Liter variant.
  • reyjason Feb 19 2012 @ 12:40am
ok yung price sa civic for the specs nya but i don't drive an automatic transmission car. . hopefully they will bring in M/T variant then I will choose this car over the chevy cruze
  • jcalhs Feb 19 2012 @ 02:30am
To the editors of Top Gear Philippines, being imported from Japan does not mean that this Civic has JDM specs. The sale current gen Civic sedan has been discontinued in the Japanese market. There is no JDM Civic sedan for this current generation model. The Civic model being sold/introduced would probably have the same specs as those sold in GCC - Gulf countries.

I wonder what Sarne-Boy has an answer to this?
  • GBfive Feb 19 2012 @ 06:17am
@boi_torotot: to say it's overrated is an understatement.

Test drove the 2012 Civic yesterday. The engine seems to be the same with the 07 model (the same car I currently own). Tried to floor it just to make some comparison to my car's engine response but maybe the eco function did something to mute the 2012 civic's powertrain or something but I didn't get the oomph I expected. Maybe the improved NVH level on the new civic (according to the sales agent this is because the new model had a shorter wheelbase) also had something to do with it since the engine noise was also muted :) Speaking about making things shorter, the driver and passenger side seems narrower. The CBU Japan offers auto climate control, cruise control, has a built in video whenever you back up...these are absent on the Thailand built variant. Particularly like the 60/40 split on the back seats. The trunk seems to have the same dimensions as the previous model. The cost is high indeed at 1.074m but this is because of the taxes imposed on CBU Japan variants. Will i buy it??? not necessarily, it's nice to have though =)

Also test drove it, the Civic feels floaty
    • lsdgenie Mar 02 2012 @ 03:14pm
How can someone downvote a report on a test drive? Shows how pathetic some people can be. Particularly some owners of Hyundai can be. Probably because they don't have the cash for anything else.
      • hondajazz Mar 15 2012 @ 10:19pm
they really are pathetic.yung pera kase nila pang hyundai lang e.

I am surprised at how this car is received here in the PH. When this came out in the states, everyone hated it. Honda themselves decided to revamp the Civic, which will come by the end of 2012, just 8 months after it released because it was so ill-received. Iba talaga ang mindset ng mga pinoy pagdating sa Civic.
    • ashek268 Feb 20 2012 @ 10:21am
Actually it's the market environment and sadly we have a lot of ignorant and uneducated buyers in the Philippines. Basta Honda-it's-good-mentality. And that's why Honda Cars Philippines is banking on it. Overpriced this.........thing and we will recover our losses. Let the buying public pay and shoulder the costs.

      It's that twisted and simple.
      • dsobreo Feb 20 2012 @ 07:35pm
I agree!!! They hate the fact that wala na ang tinitingala nilang Civic... most common defense mechanism of humans "Denial"
        • jayzeter19 Feb 26 2012 @ 02:29pm
          agree :))
        • lsdgenie Mar 02 2012 @ 03:15pm
Ya. Just how you guys deny reality that mahina pa rin ang kotse niyo - and that people will most likely never get past the stage "ay, korean yan eh"
    • crschavs Mar 19 2012 @ 10:01pm
true that! lagi nalang "basta honda civic maganda yan!" "maganda resale value ekek" who would buy a car worth 1M just to sell it in the future? wow
  • ashek268 Feb 20 2012 @ 09:26am
Test drove the new civic. Word of advice if you have the current FD or are planning to get: Don't buy the new civic. Not worth your money! And Honda is boasting that it is a CBU-Japan unit. What more if it is going to be from Thailand?????

Looking at photo 11, it seems the sliding door over the cupholders beside the hand brake seems gone. The hand brake's handle is also shaped more traditionally, at least from the surface.

I can't help but think this refresh doesn't offer much beyond the current FD. Sure, some nips and tucks here, a new feature there, but the whole package isn't too compelling. I guess the FD was so ground breaking during its time, even Honda itself is having a hard time outdoing itself. Hard to imagine the FD's already approaching its 7th year in the market. (This coming from a person is definitely not a fan of the FD)

Being a Honda, it'll probably sell okay, but with the Cruze, Elantra, "new" Mazda 3 and all the B-segment subcompacts breathing down on this class, I doubt it'll set any records. The tag price isn't all too exciting, either, but its completely Japan made, and some people here have already taken notice of that.

The 9th generation Honda Civic was widely panned by car reviewers as a laggard among its competitors and in some cases a step back from the previous generation. Significantly, Consumer Reports stripped the Civic of "Recommended Buy" status citing less agility and lower interior quality among other downgrades.

In an act of admission of the criticisms, Honda is now rushing to revamp the Civic just 8 months after it was launched.

It will be interesting to see if Top Gear Philippines' review of the Civic will be as kind as this news article.
    • fortis Feb 24 2012 @ 10:13am
maybe they will be able to justify that this Civic is for the now-matured Civic owners of the past. but then again this is a Civic. A Civic should be sporty, fun to drive and features innovative design and technology.
  • jayzeter19 Feb 21 2012 @ 10:05pm
just went to honda kal today.. checked on the new civic... well i admit it has good gadgets... but... i still feel the spirt of civic in fd version than this new one -_-

the civic(sporty) concept is lost in this new car...
  • walphie Feb 22 2012 @ 11:22am
According to PaulTan, after completing the roll-out of this new Civic, assembly of the FD at Santa Rosa will cease and consolidated in Thailand. :( City na lang ang may local assembly.

I really, really hope our policymakers are listening. First, Ford, then Honda. I know Toyota's planning to expand, but that's tiny compared to Toyota's investment in Indonesia.

The government should listen to companies that are downsizing operations here in the Philippines. Costs are too high and red tape still gums up business, despite efforts to address this. This really hurts our competitiveness with our neighbors. I know it wasn't this regime's fault, but it's not yet too late to address their concerns, at least for the longer term. Napaka myopic kasi ng mga hinahalal natin sa puwesto, puro populist schemes for short term gains (papogi), walang long-term vision or roadmap. :(

I'll pass on this Civic and wait for the 2013 refreshed model. This is by far the worst Civic ever next to the "Dimension Civic." Terrible reviews from almost every part of the world. Performance is so so, sub par quality, dull, soft and no longer a leader in technological advancement whether in terms of style or mechanical attributes. Even American Honda President admitted this and will immediately refresh the Civic come 2012.
    • BOOGIECAT Feb 24 2012 @ 02:47pm
Pinakapangit na Civic ay yung Box Type at ES/EP.
      • fortis Feb 24 2012 @ 07:22pm
The Dimension Civic had lots of defects not known to many
  • fortis Feb 23 2012 @ 04:00pm
The FD replacement should have been the Acura ILX.
  • dmaxred18 Feb 23 2012 @ 06:01pm
Para syang current honda city,. sana iniba nila yung design,. yung accord design nlng sana
  • dmaxred18 Feb 23 2012 @ 06:04pm
mas gus2 ko pa yung old civic
  • rmolivar Feb 25 2012 @ 09:25pm
does not look inspiring design-wise IMHO.
  • World Super Cars Mar 02 2012 @ 08:43am
