MIAS 2012: Ford brings in Explorer with EcoBoost

Following the successful launch of the 3.5-liter Ford Explorer AWD Limited in October 2011, Ford Group Philippines is now bringing in the lower displacement 2.0-liter Explorer GTDi XLT with EcoBoost.

"The All-New Explorer is fast-becoming one of our strongest vehicles in the Ford portfolio, and we are eager to sustain the momentum," said Ford Group Philippines president, Randy Krieger. "The success of this vehicle is further evidence we are delivering products that people want and value."

Combining gasoline direct injection and turbocharging, Ford claims that the 2.0-liter inline-four GTDi engine with EcoBoost technology delivers performance that's comparable to normally-aspirated V6 engines with its output of 237hp and 366Nm of torque.

"This 2.0-liter Explorer GTDi with EcoBoost adds class-leading fuel efficiency to a legendary portfolio of capability, performance and customer convenience," said Vinay Piparsania, Ford Group Philippines' vice president for marketing and sales. "SUV customers in general--and Explorer customers specifically--told us they want the freedom and empowerment Explorer always has stood for, with improved performance and significantly increased fuel economy."

The Explorer GTDi XLT also offers a Ford technology unique in the automotive industry in the first-ever inflatable second-row seatbelts. With rear seat passengers--often children or elderly people--often more vulnerable to head, chest and neck injuries, the advanced restraint system was designed to help reduce such injuries.

The 2.0-liter Explorer GTDi XLT with EcoBoost will be available starting July at P2.250 million.

Is it really going to be priced at 2.25m php?

But isn't it's bigger engine counterpart priced at just 2.4m php for 4x4 AT Ltd edition?

I'm just confused at this, I though the EcoBoost engine model lineup would be a bit better priced and not above 2m php.

2.250M Pesos talaga yang Explorer XLT 2WD Ecoboost variant!

I think para to sa gustong matipid sa gas na large SUV.

Hoping maging maayos na ang pag-restock at supply nila ng Explorer!

In the US, the standard FWD Explorer XLT has a V6, the EcoBoost is actually an optional "more fuel efficient" engine in their lineup. So if Ford wants to sell a cheaper FWD Explorer here, ironically, it will have the same V6 as the Limited model.

Parang ang mahal naman. 100k difference only between this and the 3.5V6?

P120K difference. The standard FWD Explorer XLT in the US has the same V6 as the Limited. The 2.0 EcoBoost is actually a "more fuel efficient" engine option for the FWD Explorers. If they want a cheaper FWD Explorer XLT, ironically, it will have to come with the a V6.

    • BOOGIECAT Mar 31 2012 @ 02:43pm
      140K Pesos ang price difference.
      • RS500 Mar 31 2012 @ 07:54pm
i know. parang sinabi ko lang na atleast 100k ang difference.

GTDi with EcoBoost is a petrol engine. This means this little displacement right here is a fuel efficient compare to the V6. For me with current oil crisis we've experiencing today this new technology by Ford will doing fine with the EcoBoost technology even though the displacement is too troll for an SUV. If I have only have a $$$$ I would choose this variant over the V6, just for city cruising and out of town trips with family
