MIAS 2012: Motor Image Pilipinas reveals the Subaru XV

Subaru XV

Are you looking for a different kind of crossover? Motor Image Pilipinas might have just the vehicle for you as it has brought into the country the Subaru XV.

Subaru claims that the XV is "specifically designed for customers looking for a vehicle that offers looks and functionality, stretching beyond those of existing crossover models."

The XV incorporates numerous body and chassis enhancements that make it different from the all-new five-door Impreza where it is based. Black side- and wheel-arch cladding, rocker spoiler and roof rails provide a rugged contrast to the body color while the higher ride height, roof spoiler and unique 17-inch wheels bolster the XV's go-anywhere stance and attitude. The front and rear bumpers and the front grille, though, are unique to the Subaru XV.

The XV comes with Subaru's all-new third-generation 2.0-liter FB boxer engine that provides excellent acceleration response with a high level of torque even at low speeds. The flat-four engine also features a long-stroke design for better fuel efficiency, and, thanks to the integration of Subaru's unique symmetrical all-wheel drive system, the drive is said to deliver a sense of stability that is not normally expected for a high-riding vehicle.

Putting the engine's 148hp output down to all four wheels is the second-generation Lineartronic continuous variable transmission that outflanks the competition in overall coverage, making it possible for drivers to switch from traditional automatic-transmission vehicles without any sense of unease.

With its low center of gravity, the XV also delivers an unexpectedly smooth ride despite its tall ride height.

"Consumers are placing more emphasis on functionality and style. The new Subaru XV marries the best of both worlds that drivers have been waiting for, by fulfilling modern practical needs and economy, with a combination of the sense of security and urban looks expected of an SUV," said Glenn Tan, the executive director of Tan Chong International, Motor Image's parent company. "I'm confident that urban dwellers would be excited by the new form factor and stunning performance of the new Subaru XV."

The Subaru XV is available in two trims, with the top-of-the line 2.0is Premium at P1.398 million while the 2.0i is at P1.288 million

Yes, the forester will remain the forester - The sales associate I spoke to said the XV's natural rival in our market would be the ASX (and judging from the size when I saw it, he's right)

The interior feels a whole lot better than the previous Impreza. As for me, I'll be waiting for the next Impreza sedan
