The United States' Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport--sold as the ASX in the Philippines--as a Top Safety Pick after it earned "good" ratings in the organization's crash-test analysis.

To garner the Top Safety Pick award, the Outlander Sport had to receive a "good" test score in evaluations on front, side, rollover, and rear impact.

According to the IIHS, Mitsubishi made changes to the Outlander Sport's roof structure to improve its rollover-protection rating.

The 2012 Outlander Sport is the second Mitsubishi model to be named as a Top Safety Pick after the 2012 Lancer sedan since the IIHS implemented more stringent measures in assessing the strength of a vehicle's roof.

    ASX's handling is miles better than Tucson and it is more fuel efficient. A difference of 2L/100km. But the only drawback is the small space and price of ASX.
