Mitsubishi Motors PH introduces 1.6-liter Lancer EX variants

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Mitsubishi PH introduces 1.6-liter EX models

We featured the 1.6-liter Lancer EX in our Japan Issue last May, but we couldn't give you the pricing back then since Mitsubishi Motors Philippines had yet to finalize it for the three 1.6-liter variants. Well, we can finally give them to you now that the Japanese carmaker has officially made the cars available to the market.

The 1.6-liter Lancer EX comes in three variants: the base GLX with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic, and the range-topping MX with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

An all-new 4A92 16-valve MIVEC engine that produces 115hp and 154Nm, powers the three 1.6-liter Lancer EX variants. Paired with the five-speed manual gearbox, Mitsubishi promises that the car can yield up to 21km for every liter of fuel.

Outside, the 1.6 EX carries the same jet fighter-inspired front grille as its 2.0-liter variants, while inside the three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel comes with a silver accent that adds a touch of elegance to the sporty feel of the MX variant. Another extra feature to the top-of-the line model is the GPS navigation system that comes as an added bonus to its multimedia entertainment system.

The 1.6-liter Lancer EX is available in the following colors: Orion Black, Citadel Red, Dominic Silver and Polar White.

Oh, yeah...the price list. The prices are P825,000 for the GLX (MT), P855,000 for the GLX (AT), and P930,000 for the MX.

all hail the manual gearbox lovers!
  • Chrisahoy 10 months ago
I'd take the base model and spend another 100 grand on kits and wheels to make my own Evo X for just under a million pesos. haha!
    • RS500 10 months ago
well nakakahiya yan when suddenly may makasabay kang totoong lancer evo x sa stoplight sabay nagrerev ng engine. yan ang ayaw ko sa mga Lancer EX owners na ginagawang EVOX kotse nila. para bang sinabing "eto na lang bilhin ko kasi di ko afford magkaroon ng totoong evo. atleast hawig naman, pwede na pang chiks.."
      • crschavs 10 months ago
      • Kyoichi Sudo 11 months ago
Yeah. Pag gusto mo ng Evo X look sa LanEX dapat kahit an engine i-tune kaso wag lagyan muna ng turbo kasi mawawala an waranty
      • Feeter Silverster 10 months ago
    • jayzeter19 11 months ago
this is why lancer ralliart and evos look like cheap nowadays -_-

      damn bastards...
  • td21 10 months ago
    Dapat 1.8 liter ang mx.
  • jabroni 10 months ago
For the AT variant Focus should be a better buy, 6speed against only 4 with better performance numbers for the focus. Mistu overpriced these variants by 30-50K.
    • BOOGIECAT 10 months ago
      • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
        I certainly agree
        • Fernando Amorsolo 10 months ago
I Beg to Disagree. 1.6 Liter? and 6 Speed na Focus? Won't that make it more economical in gas consumptionl. In addition. this MX variant is made for CONCERNED WITH FUEL ECONOMY. The Focus you're stating about is expected to run fast.
      • Allain 10 months ago
According to some agent this price is for the first 300 units only..

Great looks, fuel economy, big enough, reasonable price, manual option, what's not to like? TGP please check if the claimed consumption of 21L/km is correct.
    • Allain 10 months ago
Tama po yan. 21 km/l at average speed 80km/h.
  • jesslink 10 months ago
    Like....
  • jeprockz 10 months ago
Nice.. This is a good buy no doubt.. And its more fun to drive (if you get the manual variant)
  • yokam888 10 months ago
medyo mahal ata. i was expecting these variants to be around 650k-750k only
    • Feeter Silverster 10 months ago
new body naman eh, I thinks it's just ok, competitively priced vs altis and elantra.
    • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
Pls read the nameplate, its "Lancer EX" not "Lancer Cedia". The previous Cedia GLS already had a P740K pricetag and I already knew that MMPC won't price the base near the P740K GLS cedia pricetag.
  • nothing personal 10 months ago
how about the 2.0 gt-a variant?what's new?because i also read in the may issue that the gt-a will be offered in a new 18's rim design....and oh,are they still selling the ralliart variant?
    • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
Yes, the Ralliart is still on sale w/ a P1.9M pricetag for cash buyers.
    • carlo0810 10 months ago
The old 18s look better than the new ones, also the bad thing about the new GT-A is that MIVEC is only for the intake cam unlike the old which was dual
      • nothing personal 10 months ago
but the new gt-a and ralliart does have the nav and price drops right?
        • carlo0810 10 months ago
GT-A and ralliart doesnt have the navi option since it uses rockford head units, navi head units are distributed by winterpine
          • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
nagkukuripot yata ang MMPC, may touchscreen headunit naman ang Rockford Fosgate, its been used my Mitsus in America, Japan and in other countries, usually its been placed in the Lancer/Lancer EX, Outlander, ASX and EvoX
            • carlo0810 10 months ago
They could if they wanted to, but that would mean another price increase which is exactly the opposite of what MMPC hopes to attain with the new GT-A
              • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
but for me the GT-A is still overpriced, they should make the P1.14M cash pricetag the new SRP of the new one.
    • carlo0810 10 months ago
AFS switch was also removed on the new GT-A

sayang at hindi nako pwede. huhu. i still love mid-size SUV's! just crossed your fingers kyoichi. someday, you will have it!
  • ashek268 10 months ago
Sounds like a wheezy underpowered engine with a heavy curb weight.
    • GotToRead 11 months ago
pano pa ang Fortuner? Pang Mazda 3 na HP which is 102 HP but sells like pancakes.
      • ashek268 10 months ago
There is a rumored engine upgrade for the 2.5 2KDFTV diesel engine for the Hilux and Fortuner from Toyota Philippines this 4th quarter. Engine will now have VGT.
    • barry 10 months ago
      will have to wait!
  • car_mac 10 months ago
I have a huge feeling this car would be underpowered. I think they could squeeze more hp from their 1.6 engine because honda has a 1.5 with already 120hp or they could add different displacements for this one like a 1.8 liter so that it would be enough to power the size of this car.
    • nothing personal 10 months ago
the car's power is just right..you should consider that mitsubishi built this for efficiency not for performance..though 115hp is nothing to brag about i think its enough to do spirited drives on provincial highways...
      • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
I agree. And besides, how can you judge the car's fastness if you even didn't try driving it? I judged the D-Max before about its power but when my dad bought one I deeply regret my thoughts before.
    • markdejesus76 10 months ago
Sir, actually, HP isn't the only basis for being underpowered. Look at the Torque figure. 154Nm is enough to push the car with speed. Kaya na nga nun magsustain ng speeds of 120-150kph with full load (6 person, heavy compartment).
    • carwiki 10 months ago
Ok lang yan, yung 3- Series nga namin 115hp din and 150 Nm of torque, mabilis naman siya. Pwede naman i- customize para bumilis kahit turbo. Wag agad- agad, dapat out of warranty na yung Lancer.
    • Allain 10 months ago
The car can do 190km/h according to the specs na nilabas nila. Mabagal lang siguro ang arangkada but it can still out run those SUV.
    • fortis 10 months ago
gone are the days when manufacturers are making engines producing higher outputs. they are now concentrating on delivering enough power with minimal fuel consumption. Remember the 90s when we still have the Lancer GLXi? It had a 1.6 SOHC 4G92 engine producing 120 or 124 HP. That engine had a DOHC, MIVEC version used in the Cyborg R and was producing 160HP. Mitsubishi, if they want can build engines with higher outputs. But because we are now running out of fossil fuels and also because of global warming they now have to create highly efficient engines similar to what other car companies are doing. Of course they differ in terms of the technology they use to design engines reason for similar displacement engines having different power outputs. Some have high HP ratings but low on torque while others are designed to have easier torque access in the lower rev range but with a not so impressive HP output.
  • GotToRead 11 months ago
Madami na akong nakikitang ganito sa daan! Spoiler na lang kulang nung iba haha :D this is a pretty good move for mitsubishi, sana madala yung 1.8 variant tsaka yung hatch variant.
  • jayzeter19 11 months ago
This is why the Lancer GT-A,Ralliart & Evo X looks like cheap nowadays -_-

i just hate the same design.. >:(
  • jtl888 10 months ago
I think someone should explain more to what really "under power" means. Mukhang misguided ang most readers eh. :)
    • GotToRead 10 months ago
can you please enlighten them, sir.
    • John Rigor 10 months ago
I could only name 2 cars that directly compete with the 1.6 Lancer which has more power and torque:

      Ford Focus 1.6 M/T
      -123hp, 159Nm
      -5 speed manual transmission
      -P859,000

      Hyundai Elantra 1.6 M/T
      -130hp, 157Nm
      -6 speed manual transmission
      -P818,000

The Lancer EX has more power and torque when compared to the Mazda 3 1.6 and Toyota Altis 1.6 M/T. The Lancer is not awfully under-powered. But it is also not class leading.
    • Allain 10 months ago
You are right sir..On some region po available ang Lancer EX with 1.5 liter engine. So i think 1.6 liter is much better.
      • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
And oh, the 1.5L Lancer EX in other countries is called "Lancer Juro", same name to the 2.0L Diesel version.
  • John Rigor 10 months ago
Too bad MMPC ditched the 2.0 M/T EX for this. :( That was a great car.
    • SAS77 10 months ago
yeah, they should have maintained the 2.0 M/T Lancer in their line up. Only the GT-A has a 2.0 now :|
    • LancerEX-GTA 10 months ago
Ito talaga yung hinahanap ko dati, the Lancer EX GT 2.0 M/T. The only difference with GT-A is walang Rockford Fosgate sound system ang GT. Kaso lang na-phase out na nila agad.
  • rdrogel 10 months ago
sabi ng isang sales rep na di magiging taxi to. Kasi mas mahal pa sa dating Lancer.
    • jtl888 10 months ago
Huwag po tayong maniwala 100% dyan unless it has a contract like Honda. :)
      • LancerEX-GTA 10 months ago
Honda has no contract prohibiting the buyers to make their cars as taxi. Honda will just void the warranty. In-short, anyone can make any car as taxi.
        • someonespecialisme 10 months ago
          that sir is a contract.
          • LancerEX-GTA 11 months ago

:) Cheers.
  • LancerEX-GTA 10 months ago
MMPC could have released these trims back in 2008 so they could have competed better especially with Honda and Hyundai.

    Lancer Cedia 1.6
Lancer EX GLX / GLS 1.8
    Lancer EX GT / GT-A 2.0
    Ralliart and Evo X

Sana ibalik nila yung na-phase out na Eclipse to compete with GC, 86 and BRZ.
    • Kyoichi Sudo 11 months ago
MMPC should really bring back the Eclipse but this time w/ a new body and looks w/c we know is impossible.
      • jayzeter19 11 months ago
          • jayzeter19 10 months ago
ohh.... well thats a bummer.. -_-
  • ride-on 10 months ago
(Your thoughts on the article...)hold-on Mitsutics--wait for the new frugal 4J10 engine next year on a 2014 ASX & Lancer model.
    • Kyoichi Sudo 10 months ago
Actually, I was already expecting that Mitsu wouldn't do a fantastic job on the 1.6 of the Lancer EX. Remember when Toyota launched the first Fortuner and the new Hilux way back 2005? What was Mitsu's ninjas back then? the facelifted Montero Sport(old body) and the upgraded Strada(old body) but what happened last 2007? The all-new Strada was launched, followed by the all-new Montero Sport in 2008. By then, what happened to Toyota? Is the Fortuner and Hilux still the best sellers? Well, the happy days of Toyota ended w/ Mitsu's killer attack. Best mid-size SUV-Montero Sport, Best Pick-up-Strada. It just so happen that Mitsu is very patient.
      • docmart70 10 months ago
yeah the happy days of toyota ended indeed with the vios, camry, innova, prado, land cruiser, alphard and hiace the best sellers in their class and the corolla, hilux and fortuner a close second in their class. Not to mention that toyota is the best selling brand for more than a decade and by a large margin, and that's just in the Phil. It's also the best selling brand worldwide. while mitsu is 6th among the 8 major japanese brands, and the 16th auto company worldwide. with the galant, grandis, endeavor, eclipse, colt going out of production and the fuzion, strada, montero sport, pajero and lancer all already more than 5 years old in production, wonder how the happy days of toyota ended. . .ah but wait the mirage is coming to save mitsu,
