TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Mitsubishi Strada

The Montero Sport is not just the only vehicle to get Mitsubishi's variable geometry turbo (VGT) system as the Strada pickup trucks also received the upgrade.

Two new variants of the Strada--the GLS Sport-V 4x4 and the GLX-V 4x2--are now equipped with VGT and intercooler on its 2.5-liter common rail direct injection diesel engine to boost its output to 178hp and 350Nm of torque. While the GLX-V 4x2 variant gets a four-speed automatic transmission, the GLS-Sport-V variant receives a five-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic mode to give its driver the convenience of an automatic transmission and the excitement of a manual one.

Adding fun and functionality to the GLS Sport-V variant is the new multimedia and information system, which comes as standard feature. This makes the Strada the first in its class to be equipped with the system that features Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation, vehicle information display and multimedia entertainment system. Like the Montero Sports' multimedia and multi-information display system, essential information is accessible via a 7-inch touch screen LCD Monitor. Besides the useful driving aids like the compass, altitude and outside temperature, real-time statistics like average speed and fuel consumption are also available with the system. The multimedia entertainment system is versatile in function. It plays DVD as well as devices that require a USB port.

The Strada GLS Sport-V 4x4 is now available at P1.295 million while the Strada GLX-V 4x2 is offered at P1.03 million.

    Montero and Strada. Almost 400k difference. If I will buy an auto, I think I will buy Strada instead of Montero then place a "Carrier Boy" (pls. correct me if I'm wrong) at the back. :) Same engine at less expense. ^_^

    Variable geometry turbochargers (VGTs) are a family of turbochargers, usually designed to allow the effective aspect ratio (sometimes called A/R Ratio) of the turbo to be altered as conditions change. This is done because optimum aspect ratio at low engine speeds is very different from that at high engine speeds. If the aspect ratio is too large, the turbo will fail to create boost at low speeds; if the aspect ratio is too small, the turbo will choke the engine at high speeds, leading to high exhaust manifold pressures, high pumping losses, and ultimately lower power output. By altering the geometry of the turbine housing as the engine accelerates, the turbo's aspect ratio can be maintained at its optimum. Because of this, VGTs have a minimal amount of lag, have a low boost threshold, and are very efficient at higher engine speeds. VGTs do not require a wastegate. -Wikipedia

    i already have a montero sport but not with the vgt, is it possible to buy just the turbo with vgt and replace my stock turbo ?
  • troybentz Feb 22 2011 @ 06:20pm
    If the 2.5 4D56 with VGT produces 178bhp.. how about the 3.2 4M41 if equipped with VGT?
    -why not just put VGT on all variants and keep prices thesame?

    @joab565: lahat matic. last quarter pa of this year nila ilalabas ang montero 4X4 and strada manual with a VGT.
    @redcat: try to visit the dealership and ask them if they can allow it to install in your monty.
    @troybenz: oo nga.
    @HKB: oo nga. pero antayn na lang natin yung all-new ford ranger next year when it hits our shores...

    @HKB: i think VNT and VGT are basically the same. iba lang ang pangalan.
