MMDA installs first variable messaging system on EDSA

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - MMDA installs first variable messaging system on EDSA

Southbound motorists on EDSA coming from Cubao and headed for the Santolan flyover will soon be alerted of the traffic situation that lies ahead as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has just put up its first variable messaging system in the area.

Located near the corner of EDSA and Main Avenue, the variable messaging system is basically an electronic streaming billboard that will be used to broadcast traffic updates on a real-time basis.

What do you think of this project? Should the MMDA install more of these to keep motorists updated on the traffic condition ahead of them or is the agency not utilizing its resources properly? Feel free to post your thoughts.

Just a bit worried about the structural integrity of these signs in an event of an accident, earthquake, etc.

Those things should have adjustable brightness dapat

Mas effective pa din yung fixed signage kasi no operational costs.

    Yun lang ang akin.

About clearance, most likely as per dpwh minimum standard yan na 4.27m above the highest point of road tulad ng mga overpass, kung di nila ginawa ganun ay ewan ko na kung bakit pa nila tinayo at inapprove.

I bet the sign will not change and always display "Bumper to bumper traffic ahead."

Nung nakita ko to only half of the billboard was displaying a message.

Great.. So when will it post traffic updates? I drove by it earlier saying "Add MMDA on Facebook and Twitter" And here's the best bit "Download the MMDA app" It does not inform motorists about the traffic situation it's just a distraction..

probably the reason why the message on the picture above says "Buckle Up". we know there is bumper to bumper traffic in that area and seatbelts will be of no use but since there is distraction, big possibility that you will bump the car in front of you.. :D
