Common sense dictates that a passenger sedan is no match for a big commercial truck. If the two come together even in a slow-speed collision, we know that the sedan will always be on the losing end--we just don't know the potential extent of the damage.
A reader sent us these photos, accompanied by a narration of what happened:
I want to share what happened to us on March 22, while we were cruising near the Ortigas flyover on C-5 going to Makati. I was about to change lanes when this truck hit us. Turns out the truck driver was also moving to the same lane, but I didn't see him in my side mirror. As you can see, our car sustained damage from the rear left wheel all the way to the driver-side door. We were fortunate that traffic was slow at the time. If it had been a fast collision, I wouldn't be alive to share this. I just want to remind my fellow motorists to be cautious out there and to be mindful of blind spots.
We suggest you scroll down to the last photo to see the kind of damage a truck can inflict on your car. Nope, that's not crumpled paper you'll be looking at. Hopefully, that will be enough to convince you that it's always best to keep a safe distance from big, lumbering commercial vehicles.
