Public-utility bus

With the Land Transportation Office cracking down on colorum public-utility vehicles by imposing stricter fines and penalties that took effect yesterday, June 19, the agency has apprehended eight erring bus operators and their vehicles.

The eight bus operators are:

* AOM
* Bachelor Express
* Buenasher Transport
* Dalin Liner
* Jerel Transport
* Lucena Lines
* Nelbusco
* Super 5

Based on the DOTC's revised schedule of fines and penalties, the operator of a colorum bus will be fined P1 million, while the bus will be impounded for a minimum of three months.

"These colorum buses have been impounded in accordance with JAO 2014-01, and the fines will go straight to the National Treasury once paid," LTO chief Alfonso Tan Jr. said. "Let this be a warning to colorum bus operators. The LTO will enforce traffic rules for the sole purpose of ensuring safety in land transportation."

Tan added that the agency's apprehension of the erring bus operators showed the intent of transportation authorities to implement rules and regulations.

"The LTO is serious in putting a stop to rampant violations of land transportation rules and regulations," the agency chief shared. "As part of our reform program, one of our priorities is to instill orderliness on our roads for both public-utility and private vehicles."
